Definitely drops the volume. I like to hear the drum a bit.Good rebound, not like those neoprene pads.Don't have to change the head like the silent strokes, which to me are way to quiet.Snaps on to flanged drum rims, haven't tried cast rims yet.you can change the tension with the included toolMic'ing these mutes are a bit strange. Near field sound will get you both the drum and the black hole. Just pull the mic back a bit and it will sound better. You will never have to mic these mutes live, but for practice or demonstration purposes, it works out fine.And yes, the snare wires will work with these mutes. I've used this 10 inch on toms and small snares.

These are the real deal. Quiet practice with just enough tone. And, they can be installed or removed in just a few seconds. Well designed, well constructed. Very satisfied!
