Exclamation Mark

My 8 and 10 year old read this book together immediately after receiving it. WE LOVE IT!! As a teacher and mom, I appreciate the simple text, but that the author didn't shy away from great vocabulary (flummoxed, deflated). Additionally, it is super clever that once the question mark shows up, she speaks in nothing but QUESTIONS! This book begs for rereading so you can linger to notice the facial expressions of each period and the way the exclamation mark changes from the beginning to the end. Highly recommend for K-2 teachers who are trying to get the point across in terms of teaching varying types of punctuation marks. However, older students can also benefit from the way the author uses humor that younger kids will miss as well as to address those students who OVERUSE exclamation marks. I plan to do an author study of Amy Krouse Rosenthal next month to explore her other titles with my first graders.

I love this books o much I bought it twice, once for my children and another copy for my daughter's kindergarten teacher. I'm a big fan of Amy Krouse Rosenthral, many of her books can be used educationally or simply for entertainment. This book is about an exclamation mark finding his way. He tried not to stick out, but (spoiler alert) in a world of periods, he ends up making his mark by the end! My fourth-grader even read this book during a read aloud and his ELA teacher sent me an email to let me know what a great job he did and that she would be adding this book into her class library.

i love this book. i received this book from my 7th-grade teacher and I purchased it for a kid i tutor. teaching him to stand in his individuality.

My son and I both loved this book. It has a message to find yourself and when you do. Enjoy the limelight and stand out. Don’t be afraid of your own magnificence.

This is one of my favorite read-aloud books of all time! The style is so engaging and a blast to read. While the punctuation element is there, this book is much more. It's about being true to yourself and appreciating differences. The pages look like primary lined paper too which is such a great detail! Amy Krouse Rosenthal ROCKS my classroom! I teach 1st and 2nd grade and my kids loved this! I recently read it to a large group of students in 1st - 6th grades and they all had high praise for Exclamation Mark!

A great book for children or adults who may not feel like they always fit in. Light and fun. A feel-good little gift.

This is a fantastic book to teach pre-k kids about explanation mark, question marks and periods. My son also memorized the words in it. It is engaging as well and keeps the child focused on its content. This is my second book purchase by the same author. I will buy more of her books. Great reads!

My 2.5 year old loves this book and the humor is amusing to me too. You have to read with a lot of emotion to really make it enjoyable. It's fairly short. I think it is most suitable for kids who understand punctuation or are curious in learning about it. We got this after my son started pointing out punctuation in books we were reading and this helps drive home what they do. I think the personification helps.

I absolutely loved this book. Simple yet effective and loved the humour-I laughed out loud and had to share it with my partner - he writes novels and never uses an exclamation! I think he just might now.Simply brilliant!
