Baby turtle sculpture is inspired by the western painted turtle that lives here in western Canada. The Baby turtles are about only 1 inch long when they first hatch, smaller than this sweet little guy. The Western Painted Turtle is an endangered and red listed species that lives here on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. It is the only native turtle in BC. There is a group of local biologists that monitor the rare painted turtles. The biologists work to remove the introduced slider turtle, reclaim habitats and monitor turtle hatch-lings.
