Audubon 74240 Chalet Metal Hopper Bird Feeder
This is the perfect size easy to fill and clean bird feeder. I'm a cancer patient and it has provided me with peace of mind. Unfortunately my complex made me remove it. I am miserable with it being down

This is the second one I have purchased. Right size for me
The size is just right for my free standing bird feeder the squirrels already have trouble climbing. The identical first one had a welded hinge break after the first 3 months. The other lid hinge broke after about 2 years. I hope this one lasts longer.

Good if you’re planning to pole mount, otherwise ...
I REALLY wanted to give this feeder 5 stars. Construction is mostly sturdy: all metal with beautiful blue powder coat finish ... but hinges are undersized and shoddily attached. Significant weight prevents swinging, so birds aren’t scared away during feeding. Latch is secure ... but clumsy to operate. It comes with a hanging hook that features a large top loop; it easily fits over a large branch. Includes 4 precut holes, ready for pole mounting ... but no parts are included to mount. Read that again: includes 4 HOLES. The manufacture is kind enough to provide “mylar tape” to cover said holes. In reality, these paper stickers barely adhered to the interior surface when new; upon my first refill of the feeder, they were already dislodged. (There’s no way these would have made it through a feeder cleaning!) It’s up to you to find a way to plug the holes if you’re not pole mounting. I just can’t wrap my head around why a manufacturer would supply a product intended to hold small parts, and include HOLES. If you can get over that, maybe it’s a 5 star product. Unfortunately, my stars are falling out through the holes ...

High quality sturdy feeder.
I had previously bought a cheap plastic feeder which was difficult to open and close and feels like it will break at any moment--so I upgraded to this quality feeder. It is solid, super easy to open and fill (haven't cleaned it yet). The only draw back is I actually can't see the birds as well on this feeder as my cheapo feeder (360deg feeding)--the overhang shades the birds so they're less visible and only having the 2 sides I don't get all the angles to see the birds.

The birds dig it!
It looks great and the birds like it. The small landing area makes it so squirrels aren't an issue. The only drawback is it has holes in it that Audabon asks you to cover with these really crappy stickers. The stickers obviously fall off in a week. So I've reverted to duct tape. Could be designed better in that aspect.

The birds love it!
Pretty well constructed, and the birds took to it right away. I hoped it would be easier for the slightly larger birds like stellar's jays to use (all my other feeders are tube style) but the clearance under the roof is pretty short. The mounting holes in the bottom mentioned in other reviews are not a big deal, if the mylar tape provided peels off a little silicone caulk would plug the holes easily. Looks nice and is ready to fill and clean.

Well worth the purchase
When I first set it up I did not like it at all because the birds would never go to it. They always chose a different feeder that I had out. Once the rain and snow arrived I put the other feeder away because the seed got too wet. When used with the dome cover this feeder works great! I am sure it would work very well without the dome but I haven't tested it. I live in the PNW and we get a lot of rain. Unless we get strong winds with the rain the seed in this house is seldom (if ever) wet. I was worried only little birds could get to the seed because the edge of the house is so low. Not the case at all. I have both big and small and often have up to 20 birds trying to feed at the same time. I love it!
