FUN READ
I found the series a fun light read. Nothing is taking seriously by the main Character typical military mindset. Not sure how he was an officer maybe a mustang, he is more enlisted in mind set. But OK. I lover the fact that author reminds you that your reading a book by the fact that characters know they are in book and that they mention the author by name. I haven't seen that before and it amuses me. Kind of like George Burns in George and Gracie. Maybe a little more military jargon. Living in MA it is nice that he gets the local and attitude right.

A fun read, enjoy
Gilmore writes a fun and very creative play on elements of biblical arcanum. He mixes elements of supernatural, absurd and numerous into a fast paced graphic novel style narrative. The villains are a little one dimensional and predictible, but hopefully they develop in upcoming books. It was an enjoyable read.

Heaven’s Dark Soldiers (Series)
This series really was a great read, I enjoyed the adventures and characters the author created. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started the books but I quickly found myself pulled into the world created by the author! I’ve now finished all 5 books and just finished “The Purgatory Knights Series” (book 1) that follows Doc on her side adventures when she doesn’t appear in the main series. I would highly recommend these book to everyone that likes a mix of military humor and Angel and Demon and all of histories “monsters” all wrapped into a great story. Now go get a some Rooster-Bragh!

Not my style
Though the writing style is interesting and the characters are okay, though except for the MC rather 2 dimensional, the series just isnt for me.I have difficulty believing that what appears to be a Special Ops Captain and Troop leader would be breaking down doors with his 1st Sergeant, something better left for the Squads. Given the MC's language and attitude, he's more of a Corporal than Captain. He's also dumb as a rock and a slow learner at times. His disbelief of all that's going on around him is humorous, especially after the manner he came back from the dead. The story itself broke my immersion multiple times. One factor was that those around the MC, though they had lived for centuries and longer, acted like they were in their teens and twenties. Nice to be "young at heart", just not realistic.Forming up for the various battles felt more like an RPG Raid, a different type of writing genre. All in all, though the style and story appear to be fine for many, that "many" doesn't include me...

Interesting enough
Interesting enough to finish the first book. The only author I can gleefully follow in the military/heavenly/quantum computers/magic is John Conroe. So I won't be continuing this series.

A breath of fresh air!
I rarely give a five star rating, but Steve deserved this one.He had a very creative story line which, coupled with his "crisp and pointed" sense of humor, kept me engaged all the way through the book. His use of grammar and careful editing was refreshing after so many disappointments in the literary world, nowadays. Cudos to you and I'm looking forward to the next book in your series.

Really enjoyed this
I think the only reason I'm giving this a four out of five is because there were parts where explaining all the creatures and stuff took an entire chapter and kind if slowed the momentum. Otherwise I really enjoyed this book and look forward to book 2
