Candle Urn 8 1/4" tall, 8" wide. This special piece was created as a prayer pot, funeral urn or simply as a decorative art piece for your home. I created it to hold a small votive candle to be used during a special ceremony or for reflective moments. If using it as a prayer pot, light the candle and write your intentions down and place inside with any sacred objects or prayer beads. If used as an urn it will hold up to 180 lbs. living weight in ashes. The piece was hand thrown on the wheel with Grolleg porcelain, and then burnished with a fine terra sigillata before bisque firing. It was then soaked in ferric chloride and saggar fired in aluminum foil. In the raku kiln chemical reactions take place and create phenomenal colors and effects. The dramatic colors produced by chemical reactions and smoke within the foil during the firing process can continue to shift and change after the piece has been taken out of the kiln and completely cooled! and protection. This piece was low fired so it is porous and not food safe or water tight. It has been sealed with an acrylic sealer for durability and protection. Due to the unique process the colors on this piece may continue to change even after the piece has been sealed. It is best not to put it in strong, direct sunlight for a period of time as colors may fade. The wooden base is sold separately for $20.
