Ancient Egypt: Everyday Life in the Land of the Nile

Highly recommended for readers with intermediate knowledge of ancient Egypt
The book is written in a straight forward manner, with a clear intention of delivering specific knowledge and not wasting time on pompous self-aggrandizement as sometimes is the case with accomplished historians. Note that Bob Briar is a highly accomplished Egyptologist, thus this is a relatively serious outlook on all major aspects of life and history of ancient Egypt. The book covers each subject to enough detail that you can pick and choose your next niche interest for further readings. More so, the book is up to date and goes into some detail about ancient construction techniques that have only become known in the recent 10-20 years.I'd recommend this to people who have a general understanding of ancient Egypt and want to dig just a little bit further and/or for those who would like to have a reference book in their disposal on all major aspects of this fascinating subject. I wouldn't recommend it to seasoned Egyptologists (professional or amateurs) as none of the subjects are explored to full extent.

An interesting book about ancient Egypt.
This is a very interesting and well written book about the everyday lives of people in ancient Egypt. It is not the usual chronology of Kings and wars in Egypt. It is about how people lived, did things, how their religion worked, how the pay farmed, entertained themselves, made a living, and so on. Very interesting, and it’s likely you have never read much of this anywhere else. The first chapter covers the chronology, dynasties, etc, to get you oriented. After that, it’s all about how Egypt actually worked, and how the common folks lived.

A good primer for a tourist visit to Egypt
Egypt has the longest of societal histories, and Ancient Egypt: Everyday Life in the Land of the Nile does a good job of preparing a casual tourist to enjoy their visit with reduced confusion. Helpful would be inclusion of a graphic summary of the various dynasties and pharaohs. Also helpful would be maps to support the various discussions throughout the book. Notwithstanding those missing elements, this is a very useful summary that helps bring the reader closer to the complex world of superstition and gods that ruled Egypt for several thousand years.

Well-written and Interesting
Usually when you buy a book like this, its a bit dry and technical. But this one is written engagingly and contains a ton of interesting information and insight into how the ancient Egyptians lived their lives. A super-enjoyable read and a good book to grab if you want to learn about everyday life in Ancient Egypt.

Good book
Fun and interesting book. Great for all ages. It's not hard to read at all and gives a basis on how Ancient Egyptians lived. It doesn't cover a lot in a specific subject but it does give a clear understanding on what went on back then. Put it this way, when I was done reading the book, it was then placed on the coffee table.

Lives of the Nile valley.
This a good one about daily life of ancient Egypt. It focuses on lives of general people of the Nile at that time. Like food, clothes, medicine, architecture, religion etc. Some colour illustrations are there. Thanks to Amazon for on time delivery.

Egypt book
Love this book I have always been a fan of Bob Brier since he did the Great Egyptians programmes for the discovery channel in 1997 now known as Ancient Egypt collection for a DVD box set which I also purchased through Amazon uk selling the box set. Highly recommended to anyone who is a fan of this Egyptologist or for anyone who is interested in the Ancient Egyptians everyday life.

Not quite everyday life
This book was not what I expected. I didn't get much of an insight the Egyptian's way of life as the authors concentrated more on material things such as architecture, arts and technological developments rather than on people themselves. It's a good overview of Ancient Egyptian culture but I don't recommend it if you want to get an insight to daily life. For that, I recommend the book "Egypt in the age of the Pyramids" written by Guillemette Andreu: it's vivid, you really get an insight to the Egyptian everyday life.
