Did not work out for me
From the description, this looked like a perfect pan to use for my gluten-free baguettes. I chose it specifically because it is made of silicone, rather than the metal non-stick pans whose coating can rub off onto the bread. Although sold as new, the item I received appeared to be used, because the tape on the bottom of the plastic box the form comes rolled in was broken, and there was a bit of what looked to be straw stuck to the surface. Unrolled, it popped nicely back into shape, but the surface was quite tacky and reeked of a chemical odor.I washed the form and allowed it to air dry, which reduced the odor considerably, although it remained tacky. The problem lies in part with the information on the outside of the plastic shipping container, which is nowhere on the website: 1. Never bake an empty form. An issue for me because I only want to make 2 to 3 loaves at a time. I tried using beans in the empty channels, but a baguette is baked at a high temperature initially, and the beans burned badly. Another option would be water, but see 2.2. Do not use unless totally dry. I don’t get this one. I like to bake with an open pan of water in the oven. Is steam a no-no with this pan?3. Item must be stored flat. It cannot be kept in the plastic box it is shipped in.4. The main sticking point for me is that it is, well, sticky. I have pets. Just allowing it to air-dry meant a few fine cat hairs were stuck to the surface. They are hard to pick off. Because of the pets, I often wipe my pans with damp paper towels just prior to use, but see 2. I feel like I can’t guarantee cleanliness using this product.I expected a floppy pure silicone form like the others I use for mini-cakes. This is more of a silicone coated mesh. I read that it is a terrific form for others, but wanted to let potential buyers know the down sides not mentioned.
