Buy the original version instead.
Pente is a great game, but 20th Anniversary Edition is a real disappointment when compared to the original. With this new edition you get a cardboard playing board, four sets of pieces (w/o bags), flimsy (but nicely printed) rules, and a box. It's everything you need to play, but it's still not as nice as my set from twenty years ago. I wish I'd saved the money and put it towards a nice [$] Go set.

I feel cheated
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son-in-law, who loves the game. I figured a 20th edition would be something special, especially with the price tag. Instead the game board was flimsy cardboard, not even as sturdy as the box it shipped in and the colored glass game pieces. That's it, that's what you get for $150. If I could rate it less than 1 star, I would. I feel cheated! Granted the game is out of production, but...

my favourite game for over 14 years
Pente is an unbelievable game. It's very easy to learn -- You can learn the rules in less than a minute. And yet the game is complex and rich and full of surprises. While not as famous or as well-studied as chess, it offers comparable intellectual challenge and satisfaction. Here are some points to consider:- Pente has a faster pace to it than chess. A game typically lasts 15 minutes. If you find chess too slow, try Pente.- Very little can go wrong with the game: You have a board with a 19 by 19 grid, and two sets of coloured stones. You are unlikely to use all the stones, so if you lose one or two, you will probably never miss them. If you do miss them -- almost anything can substitute for the missing pieces.- Pente is played with the same board and the same pieces as Go. This means that if you want a fancier set, or if you lose sufficiently many pieces so as to warrent buying a new set, you can always buy a Go set and use it to play Pente.- The same board, the same pieces, are the basis for Go, Pente, and Go-Muko, so in fact, all you need to do is look up the rules in any of the many sites on the internet and use the same set for any of these games.

Try the Portable Edition
A great game that lasts from two minutes to twenty minutes. It tests your logic, creativity, right side, left side, and all four quadrants of spacial orientation. Fun for Adults, a fun learning game for families and kids playing with adults. It has the thought power of chess without the complications. There are three simple rules and then shear enjoyment. The learning is fast and a bit contagious. The Portable edition is a roll-up vinyl cloth "board" perfect for adventure traveling on the beach, on the boat, on the slopes, or just about any where in the great out of doors. Bought ours in 1981 and it is still going places! Have a barrel of fun!

Pente is the best game ever and hard to find!
I learned how to play this game in 1984. It was so much fun and I have been looking for it everywhere. It disappeared several years ago from the stores in my area. I would highly recommend this game to anyone. It is a lot of fun for everyone!

Days Gone By...
I can't seem to find this game anywhere in Oklahoma-I've looked! Growing up, We had seven kids in our house, and Pente was the game of choice. The game has been missing for 7-8 years, and I would really like to find the travel version again. I will settle for the 20th edition for someone's birthday who holds the game in the same light I do. Thanks for stocking such a great and classic game!

Great game
I always enjoyed this game growing up, but now I can't find it here. Checked all over and can only find used ones on ebay. I'd like to have a new one because I have two people who would like it too!
