I'm not a funk guitar player but I have been playing a very long time. I have to say though I have found these exercises challenging. I always take the view that if something is challenging it's worth doing and I think learning at least some funk is good for any guitar player. It forces you to use rhythms you've never played before and to think in a completely different way. You do need software that you can change the speed of the audio though. I could never have learned these licks at full speed first time. Excellent stuff though, the author clearly knows his funk onions.

It's easy to see that a lot of research and hard work was put into this book and it has paid off! I'm not a funk guitar player myself but this book (and the audio files that come with it) has helped me a lot to develop my technique. Following the instructions and practicing the grooves are fun and instructive and every chapter is focused in different funk guitar playing styles, with plenty of resources for further studies. It's a lot of very useful information for little money!

Excellent collection of iconic funk with easy to follow instructions

This book is chock full of fun rhythms and useful tips as well as techniques to improve your playing and sound. It's very detailed and covers a range of eras and artists. I now use it in all of my practice sessions. Very happy with my purchase.

TABs and notation transcriptions are perfect add the free audio resources and this is a very well made and useful tool to practice!

This has been such a great book - clear, concise and with some great background info on all the players. I've been using it in my lessons - the accompanying backing tracks have been amazing for helping my students learn about rhythm and improv - bravo!

Lots of funk patterns…. I was skeptical of the downloads but, they were easy to download and served a second purpose ….. helped me along with my reading……

There's no shortage of guitar books aimed at Rock, Blues and Jazz. There are quite a few books on funk guitar but if you want to learn how to play RnB, Disco and Pop, there are very few options so this books is a very pleasant surprise and a warm welcome. It's almost impossible to find guitar books that discuss my favourite guitar players, who are Nile Rodgers, Paul Jackson Jr and David Williams and this book has a chapter for each of them!The content is very good as is the audio that goes with the book. The examples seem true to the styles of the individual players discussed in the book.Highly recommended.

I have been waiting for a book like this one for years and now it's out there. Love it thanks!
