Our Lava line of blankets are different from our other turbo blankets in that they feature an outer jacketing that is made from an extremely heavy duty and high quality pulverized lava rock fiber instead of silica impregnated fiber. This lava material is actually different than what any other turbo blanket manufacturer uses in that it features an aluminum bonded layer on the inside of the blanket to further reflect the small amount of radiant heat which makes it through the ceramic layer. With this combination of materials we have seen up to 90% efficiency out of a Lava blanket on certain applications.

Sort fits, if I didn't have a WG
Doesn't fit my 7163F perfectly. This was made for a wastegated 7163, but the clearance between the WG shaft and house is too small for that.I reached out to Thermal, and they said it should fit between, but they were willing to modify it for me. I asked what their turn around time was, but they didn't get back to me.I have to move on, so -1 star for not so great fit, but the shield is thick, stitching looks good. Might poke a hole so the shaft can pass thru, that way I can cover more of the turbine.

Got this turbo blanket was stated it fit the EFR Borgwarner 7163, but when went to install it definafely was not going to fit the application. Tried to return but was unable to per Amazon! Description was decieving.

Fits APR Stage 3 EFR7163 twin scroll turbo.
Looks exactly like the picture. Fits pretty snugly on the EFR7163 twin scroll turbo. This is the same turbo used in the APR VW Golf R stage 3 kit. I was worried about it interfering with the wastegate, but it doesn't appear it will cause any problems. If it becomes an issue, i'll come back and re-rate this product. Seller very strigent about taking it out of the bag, its yours. He could put it in a bigger bag to check. But overall excellent item.

Nice fit on my Borgwarner EFR 7163 turbo
I like the way it fits my Borgwarner EFR 7163 turbo. it dosen't seem to interfere with my wastegate actuator. I used some leftover springs I had laying around from a cheaper turbo blanket I had. The Thermal zero blanket just comes with a wire to secure it with. I rather have the springs. My suggestion is get some springs.

Does not cover entire turbine.
I bought this for my B1 framed EFR turbo and after receipt and close inspection realized this blanket is a poor fit. Also, the item comes in a sealed bag with a security sticker that prevents you from returning it if it's opened, so, you must really be paying attention to catch the problem with the blanket. In short, this blanket does not cover the entire turbine. It leaves a large portion of the housing to downpipe exposed. Looking at a PTP blanket for this same turbo will give an idea of where this product falls short.
