Q: Will a standard 4 in. pvc or abs fitting fit?

These Cylinders are closed on one end and open on the other. They are not open on both ends. In terms of size, they are 4" diameter, if the 4" PVC or abs fitting is also exactly 4" then it may not fit inside. Maybe order 1 to test.

Q: Is this clear enough to display sea shells?

yes this is perfect for them. This is crystal clear.

Q: Does it have a base or is it a tube?

This item has a base on one side and open on the other side. It is NOT an open tube on both sides.

Q: Can this be used as a water bridge for aquariums?

Im not sure what a water bridge is exactly, but these cylinders are not fully waterproof, they are hand fabricated and the base is glued onto the bottom of the cylinder so there may be very small gaps that water can leak through. I would suggest looking at another one of our products that is completely waterproof Azar 556336 6" x 6" Dia. Deluxe Cylinder for Countertop.
