Now as a Builder anyone that knows me definitely knows that I take pride in what I design and build. Take it from me and save your time, money and a MULITUDE OF HEADACHES AND FRUSTRATION over this piece of GARBAGE. Now some of you reading this might say that's a little harsh, well I'm trying to save you the aggravation and troubleshooting..................Troubleshooting you say? You better believe it !!!One of my customers is expecting this in less then 24 hours and while I've had this a couple of days I also have more then one customer. So I ordered this case after looking at the item at it's web-site and read the specs and it looked fine and just what the doctor ordered for expediency..........WRONG. If your building a Server please keep this phrase in mind "Move along now, nothing to see here." As it definitely says in the specs you will lose a couple of your ports off of a full blown ATX board. What it doesn't tell you is that if you need a decent power supply that takes up a good chunk of the space and sets over more then a quarter of the mother board as well. I don't want to hear from the manufacturer Servers don't need big power supplies BECAUSE THEY DO as well as redundancy, but I wasn't worried about redundancy for power. However this Server is a Media / NVR Server and I needed a power puncher. Also with that being said DON'T ORDER THE MANUFACTURERS POWR SUPPLY IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY. There is NOTHING SPECIAL about their Power Supply. Save yourself the 120.00 and go with a proven power supply that's modular, lays in clean and can be organized.Moving on..............So as I lay in my Server Mother Board (Yes it's a Server MB) I have (2) processors going in 32GB of ram and a MSI Twin Frozer setup for video I'm already tapped for space, not to mention if you bought this case to hotswap the front hard-drives out the front end I say again "Move along now, nothing to see here." Because right out of the gate the not all of the Sata Ports reported on their front Hotswap bays. That's Right !!! Number #4 is bad. Sounds like an easy task to find that out right? Well maybe........IF YOU HAVE FINGERS THE SIZE OF HEMOSTATS. After the power supply is in, all the wiring etc......you can barely get underneath the hotwap cage to pull the sata cable out from its port. Well that's not entirely true....I'm embellishing a little. You just have to completely unscrew the power supply, take it out of the chassis untie everything and there you go. However first you have to start hot swapping drives to see if the problem follows, then for giggles see if it could be the Motherboard and not their hotswap cage...........the check list goes on...........Sounds like a minor problem right? Well not if you paid for the piece of garbage to work and your Customer is expecting this in less then 24 hours. So I found a work around. There is a small bay under the compact slim Blu-ray / DVD (that's what I put in) drive (and God help you if you can't figure out how to mount the drive) and I thought I'd use that bay to mount the other 3TB drive and get on with my life..............High-Fives all the way around I can get on with my life and move on and leave honest feed back............WRONG !!! While I'm contemplating what would be the easiest way to mount the 3TB under the Optical Bay drive as to not heat the optical drive up with the HD I hear this WWWWWWWRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr.........What in the H E double toothpicks was that? I look around the chassis and I can't figure it out. So I power the Server down and power it back up. Then I hear it again WWWWWWWRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr.........UNBELIEVABLE !!! It's the friggin fan for the hotswap hard-drive cage. IT QUIT WORKING !!! So much for the work around. I mean unless I want to demonstrate this as a skillet in the data room for breakfast utensil. So instead of going on and on and on about how awful this piece of garbage is. You bet I'm sending it back. You bet I wasted Hours and Hours on this. Oh and by the way iStarUSA if you want to send me a check for all the hours I lost working on your piece of junk feel free to reach out to me directly. My rates are very reasonable. I'm a Veteran Owned Small Business and while I don't build and bend metal for a living I do own a Computer Company and a Systems Integration Company. We take pride in our work, we believe in making our customers our number one priority and on this Beautiful Sunday I'm now going to MicroCenter to get the only Rack Mounted Chassis I can find locally so I can still meet my obligation to my customer.
