Great for DSLR Film Scanning
I used these to secure my 35mm film strips in order to scan them using my DSLR. Each tray holds up to 6 frames, so I cut my negative film roll into sections of 6 frames. To use the trays, open them up, gently place your film strip into the tray (there are little notches in the tray that fit into the notches in the film), then close the tray and squeeze it shut to snap the film into place.I paired this with a cheap $20 LED-backlit tracing panel, and it lights up the negatives just enough to get a good shot using my camera on a tripod. These made the process super easy and I'd definitely purchase them again.

Okay if you have flat negatives.
If you have negatives, that means they are about 30 years old or older. Mine were stored in an envelope and when I dug them out they were slightly curved. this makes them very difficult to load into these trays. If yours are nice and flat, these trays will be okay. If you have hundreds like me, this will take forever to do. Right after I received these I found the film carrier MK1 + Pro mount MK2 at Negative supply. You feed your negative in through the brushes, turn the wheel and each negative picture appears in the lit area perfectly flat, click the picture and turn the wheel to the next frame. Oh, by the way this unit is five hundred dollars.

Tray covers film strip
The tray completely covers the sides of the film strip. If you are planning on scanning the negatives, you need to see the film strip in order to correct the white balance in lightroom. This tray does not allow that to happen.

BEWARE: These Trays Will NOT accommodate Slides
I bought these to scan negatives and slides because they were advertised for use with both. The package came with three trays, each of them stamped with NEGATIVE. Because they have tabs to secure a film strip, the trays will not close with a slide in it. They will not work with slides. Beyond that, I found the trays difficult to open and use for negatives. I wouldn't recommend them because of the misleading (or inaccurate) description.

Works great with Epson V550
These work great with my Epson V550. I have a lot of negatives which are very curled. The holders open up like a clamshell and they flatten out the negatives quite nicely by sandwiching them in between the plates. And they lift the negatives just the right amount off the scanner glass to achieve perfect focus (your mileage may vary). I find that I no longer need to use ANR (anti-Newton ring) glass to scan curled 35mm negatives.
