The Chargers, founded in 1960, are one of the eight original American Football League (AFL) teams. Led by the team's original head coach, Sid Gillman, in the early 60's; Head Coach Don Coryell in the late 70's and 80's, and Head Coach Bobby Ross and AFC Champion Chargers of 1994, the Chargers have played the kind of quick-strike football mirrored by their lightning bolt insignia.
