Real step up from the UV-5
While it's still a tight budget priced HT, it's a real step up from the UV-5. The swiveling belt clip is kind of strange compared to the UV-5, however it works quite nice and can be popped off if needed quite easily. The drop-in battery charger is a HUGE improvement over the loosy-goosy chargers that come with the UV-5 family, this new charger fits tight and you don't have to wiggle the radio around to get the connection made. There's no VFO MR button, that's now a menu button function. The provided antenna is a huge step up from previous antennas. The big feature for me is that now both tuned frequencies, Upper and Lower are monitored, you can monitor two local repeaters and hop to whichever one is active

Great upgrade from UV5R
These radios are great. I have seen them dropped in a bucket of water for several minutes and they still worked. The USB charging eliminates the need for a charging base. I can hit 2m and 70 cm repeaters over 30 miles away. My UV5Rs are now backup as the UV9R has become my main line radio.

Functional, but reception not as good as UV-5R
I purchased this as a waterproof option as opposed to the UV-5R (which performs exceptionally well). Also, was looking for the increased power output over the UV-5R. I haven't measured or tested it's waterproofing, or its power output, but what immediately struck me was how my UV-5R can pick up more signals in my area than the UV-9R PRO. Even very common stations, like Marine Weather, come in loud and clear with the UV-5R (with squelch on max, 9), but are choppy on the UV-9R PRO (with the squelch at min, 1). Tried swapping antennas (all 50 ohm). UV-5R outperforms on receptions in all cases.UV-9R PRO is functional a good deal for the price, but my UV-5R still the better radio.

A nice upgrade from UV-5R
Nice upgrade from UV-5R, atual wattage outpot varies from 6-7.5 watts only thing i didn't like was the belt clip. Its on a swivel and its not very strong. You will need a different programming cable. The batteries are usb-c rechargeable which is a huge plus.

The BAOFENG UV-9R PRO Dual Band Two-Way Radio Dustproof Waterproof IP67 Transceiver;
I had sent the first one back cause it had no antenna in the box and the keypad didn't' work; however, I had got a replacement with an antenna in it and it works very fine the real reason, the keypad didn't work was because in the instructions it so states press the menu key simultaneously and turn the radio on and the keypad would work I didn't do that at first sir-mam; I recommend try buying it again; I can get the weather frequency and it only scan up to 172,000 mhz; I can transmit and receive other radio frequencies from a repeater such as my pofung GT-5, and thereon my Airiton&BAOFENG UV-S9 it also receives; but don't transmit radio frequencies on my software device, ODYSSEY DUAL TRUNKING TCXO SDR RADIO (2x RTL2832U+R820T2 - TCXO); the UPS delivery service was terribly thats different story sir-mam; also the con is I don't like the no.0 being in fact on the side of the keypad; instead of being at the bottom of the keypad; now I have another one that I bought sir-mam same brand the signal on both of them gets lose all the time, thereon the inside you have to push the button for the flashlight to bring back the signal fq, UPS service was a little bit better this time however the box was badly damaged , and it was packed real good sir-mam; these here pofung GT-5, and thereon my Airiton&BAOFENG UV-S9, I have no problems with a radio frequencies on the inside; I've had mine for a while and one thing for sure is after readying the 1 star reviews sir-mam; the FM frequencies doesn't work in Chicago Ill; I just walked it in areas that are open, and no good for the FM frequencies; yea I can get some of the Ham radio stations, frequencies such as the weather but it unjust not working right, the design of the device was made to look good as a device that's what making it sale, but all else is no-good sir-mam; well; updated 2-10-23; sir-mam I tell you I like it but the problem is sir-mam the "signal"; I was getting the Chicago Ill weather now I'm not getting it on my BAOFENG UV-9R PRO or my other similar radios; at first I was getting only the weather fq again now I'm not getting that; when I first got I couldn't get FM fq; now I can get FM fq but I can't get the weather fq so far in part its not the radio itself no but it do need to improvement; but its the radio signal impart sir-mam

Yet another Baofeng radio - cannot be beaten for the price!
The main difference between this one and its less expensive cousins is the rugged waterproof packaging. To me that is worth the extra few vucks.So, maybe it is only half as good as the big name HTs but it is less than 1/5th the price! But what is half as good? It works as advertised! You have to love these things. They work more than well enough and if you lose one (they are small ;-)) or accidentally run it over you don't lose a lot of sleep.Yes, in the U.S. you need a license to use these, but if you have a license and can't decide if you need or want a VHF/UHF HT, try one of these.

UV-9R Pro poor reception
I purchased 2 of these and my son purchased 2. None of them receive well. They were programmed with CHIRP and cannot even receive NOAA weather very well. We probably have a dozen other Baofengs (UV-5R and BF-F8HP) and all of them receive dramatically better with same antennas and same squelch settings. (We program in new squelch levels since the ones Baofengs are shipped with always wrong). Oddly they will receive fine briefly when the menu button is pressed and then stop. It's an issue I've seen online, but no one seems to be able to solve. Tried menu 40 reset which fixed one until it was programmed again. Yes we download the factory image into CHIRP and then program our frequencies into it. Radios are useless. My son sent his back but I discovered the issue after the return window had passed so stuck with useless radios.

Clown college of contradictory specs
Battery:4800mAh in the manual2800mAh described hereIP rating:IP57 in the owners manualIP67 described hereGet it together, Baofeng. You have contradictory claims on your IP rating on at least two main selling points of this model.Also the battery doesn't charge by direct USB-c as you would expect. It's been plugged into a 100W PD 3.0 supply and showing only signs of drain. Almost dead on hour 3.
