Soulprint: Discovering Your Divine Destiny

Soulprint by Mark Batterson
"There never has been and never will be anyone like you. But that isn't a testament to you. It's a testament to the God who created you." - Mark BattersonThis quote, which also happens to be the first few sentences of the "opening scene" in Soulprint, is basically what the book is about. In Mark Batterson's unique way, he leads us through the life of King David... showing us that it doesn't matter how many mistakes we've made in life... the important thing is that we see where those mistakes have fit in our journey... and how God can use them throughout our lives.Mark starts the book talking about where our confidence should come from, and reminds us that our self-worth and persona are not attributed to our own ability, but instead to the God who created us. The rest of the book brings out good and bad points in David's life... where he messed up... where he came back. It also talks about how we can fend off those pesky things that get in the way, as we journey toward becoming who God made each one of us to be. My favorite chapter is the one about life symbols. We all have specific moments in our lives that define us. This book helped me to really think through mine.EACH one of us was created to fulfill a SPECIFIC purpose... one that no one else can fill. Soulprint is a good resource to help you begin to see the destiny that God has created for your life (within His bigger picture). We can all relate with David on some level. I relate with him well. I've made some of the same mistakes in my life, but with those mistakes has come the deep conviction that proves I am definitely a child of the King. And so, I related strongly with this book. Mark's words helped me as I continue on this path to self-discovery. It helped me to let go some guilt from the past and it also helped me to think through how I can block sin/obstacles from preventing me from becoming who God created me to be. I highly recommend this very simple, clear, profound book.I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for this review.

Life-altering Book
Over the past several years, Mark Batterson has become my favorite author. I follow his blog and try to get my hands on his new books as soon as possible. One of the things I love about Mark is that he is so prayerfully intentional with his books - he prays over what he is writing and asks God to put his books into the hands of people that it will help, and I truly believe that his prayers work.Mark's writing can reach anyone at any point in their life. Right now, I personally am going through a bit of a transition, one where I am questioning my faith and God's hand in my life. Soulprint could not have landed in my hands at a better moment. Within the first two pages of the book, Mark's writing had cut straight to the core of my soul. I ended up re-reading those first two pages several times that first night and then meditating on Mark's words until I went to sleep. I couldn't even read any further, I couldn't believe how much truth Mark had put into my life in just two pages!I read Mark's book within about a week, which is pretty fast for me to complete a book, and found myself often sitting and contemplating the book. This is not a book that you can just sit, read the information, and move on with your life. This book will have you reflecting on your own life, who you are as an individual in the eyes of God, and moving forward in a way that will positively change your view on yourself, life, and God.I highly recommend any of Mark's books, and especially his new book, Soulprint. I have already ordered 4 extra copies to give to friends and family so that they can also begin their journey to find who they truly are in God's infinite love.

Good, but thin (literally and figuratively)
"Soulprint: Discovering Your Divine Destiny" by Mark Batterson is the third book by Mark Batterson I've read and perhaps the thinnest -- both literally and figuratively -- of the three that I've read (the other two being "In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day" and "Wild Goose Chase." That doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile book. It is. It's just that the message is not quite as eye- or heart-opening as the first two.But it is a good reminder that each of us is uniquely created by God and thus each of us has a "soul print," like a finger print, that is uniquely ours. One of the challenges of life then is to discover that soul print and use it for God's purpose."There has never been and never will be anyone else like you," Batterson opens the book. "But that isn't a testament to you., It's a testament to the God who created you. You are unlike anyone who has ever lived. But that uniqueness isn't a virtue. It's a responsibility."Batterson, who is lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C., focuses on the life of David and writes that God is like an artist in whose mind the work of art (that would be us, as Ephesians 2:10 states) originates. "God is creating a picture of grace on the canvas of your life."In all, while it at times can become a bit cliched, "Soulprint" is a worthwhile book that reinforces the truth that I am "fearfully and wonderfully made."
