Practice on scrap wood to get the technique down first.
My first time trying to patch/match texture. Removed an old alarm panel from wall and it left a large hole almost the size of a standard J box. I tried this knockdown knife + the knockdown texture sponge, but found better results using just the knockdown knife + the Homax knockdown texture spray can from HD better matched my current texture.What I would do different next time: more sanding of the filler/patch I used, and also flair out my sanding to the existing texture more. My patch area is ever so slightly higher than the surrounding area. After painting it, it looks fine, but as usual you know where your mistakes are and I can see it when I chose to look for it but overall it's a fine patch and not worth redoing.

Works great with Homax® spray wall texture!
I needed to fill in an area around a light switch box that we changed from a single to a double switch and this Advance Equipment K12 Lexan® knock down knife worked pretty well with Homax® spray wall texture on a wall in our late 80's built house (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B074MCBNSM/ref=twister_B07FYPLD1T?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1).This that really made the difference compared to previous times we've used this wall texture.I set the dial on the Homax® can to the horizontal position for the heavier pattern and did short, quick bursts 5-6" away from the wall - not in a circular pattern but rather staying in one place or short sweeps left/right/up/down. I waited until the "shine" was gone from the sprayed texture (about 3 minutes) then slowly ran this knockdown knife across the texture & up and down.Any areas that looked a little thin, I repeated the process in those areas only within minutes.

Great price and worked great!
It was hard to find this item at our local hardware stores, so it was great to be able to get it a a great price. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. We had to re-patch and take down some areas of our house and this did the job perfectly.

Good texture knife
If you are contemplating a DIY repair, get a texture knife like this. It is much better than what you get at the big-box store and leaves a better finish. The knife itself is sturdy and looks like it would hold up to daily use.
