Tenor superstar Jonas Kaufmann is joined on stage by fellow opera stars Bryn Terfel, Anja Harteros and Ekaterina Gubanova at Festspielhaus Baden Baden to perform the final concert of the Festspiel-Saison in 2016. The Gala presents a diverse range of solo-arias and duets. Highlights include pieces from Puccini s Tosca, Verdi s Otello and Mascagni s Cavalleria rusticana.

World Class Performances! Extraordinary Sound!!
I bought this on Blu-ray and was not disappointed. The sound was extraordinary! The quality of the filmed concert was terrific, including backstage scenes between songs that were kind of fun. Bryn Terfel was my main attraction to this disc, but the other singers were easily his equal. The orchestra played beautifully and the pieces performed were full of emotion, warmth and often humor. One small thing I was pleasantly surprised by was subtitles in English. On other opera DVDs I've purchased, the subtitles were only for the speaking voices between songs. On this Opera Gala Blu-ray, the subtitles were for all the songs, which was added to the effectiveness. Love this!

Top notch performances
This is the best concert I have seen in years. They did not phone it in. Each and every piece is sung and performed to the max. If you want to see something truly wonderful invest in this.

I liked being backstage with the singers
This one starts with fireworks and never lets up. I usually give Concerts I buy to the library after viewing. This one I couldn't part with. So I bought the library one, too.

A wonderful Gala Opera evening! Such stupendous voices and their choice of music is to be commended. Such a mix of vocal magic, and each of the performers appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly. An easy way to enjoy such a concert from your armchair - indeed an honour to do so. I look forward to more!

Great Opera
Fabulous singers at the top of their form, well performed arias and a splendid orchestra. A good night's viewing for any opera lover. Bryn is always a favourite but he young Jonas is swiftly capturing my heart. :-)
