I'm using these on a screened-in patio here in NC where winters are pretty mild. Our two cats like cat grass, and they pull it out, so I needed something with enough soil to withstand that. (5" diameter pots I got last year don't hold up to the pulling.) So, cat grass in the first one. I'm going to try raising cilantro and parsley in the other so we can have fresh during most of the winter. Back to the planters ... They are are nice looking and deep enough to have enough soil to grow two to three plants, depending on size. However, as others have stated, the instruction are poor: no mention at all of the bags of leca balls at all, and the water level indicator instructions change halfway through: the "cap" you're supposed to remove apparently changes to a "hat" that you put back on after threading the indicator through the hole. Other than that, for the price, so far it looks like a win.

I was a bit surprised when I got it and began transferring plants to it. You don't use soil. They provide lava rocks that are the size of marbles. I got rid of as much soil from the transplants as I could then plopped them in and surrounded them with lava rocks. The level gauges didn't work immediately, but I worked with them until they responded. I really like how they are self watering. I've had them a couple weeks and I'm considering buying another set.The 1 thing I didn't like is they came with no instructions. I had to watch the video on the Amazon website and that wasn't real clear to me. I finally figured it out.

Was hesitant to spend the money, but really liked the shape and depth. Well made and worth the money. They are a form of plastic, but that’s what I wanted because it can get heavy if you have ceramic once the soil is in. Love them!

I ordered these to grow herbs in my kitchen window. They fit perfectly but arrived with no water level indicators. I contacted the company to see if they could send me the missing parts. After several days of no response I decided to exchange them. The day I submitted the return, the company reached out. Told them if I had the same issues with the next set I’d let them know. New ones arrived & again, no water indicators. Reached back out to the company and this time zero response. I ended up keeping them because I was tired of waiting and needed to plant my basil & sage. Other than 2 sets with missing parts the planters have been worked well. Won’t be ordering more.

The media could not be loaded. It looks good, slick design, simple. The water lever gets stuck when set up, but one knock and it's floating and works fine after that. So far ok.I like the idea, but after the frame and the ceramic (which was a great idea), there is not much space left for actual dirt. Wish it a bit wider and taller, just to fit more dirt.But only time will tell me if the plants will like it. I'm using potting mix as dirt.Considering water is the main factor, I guess it will work. Good value for the price.

Nice little planters but the water gauge sticks and isn't accurate at all.
