Unofficial sequel to "Easy Rider" (1969)
Founded in 1993, Chandler, AZ. based AFA ENTERTAINMENT wholesales and retails PD motion pictures in both full and widescreen formats. Cover art is often repros of vintage movie posters. They also provide a transfer to DVD service for videotapes and 8mm home movies. Their film dubs offer no commentary, deleted scenes, subtitles or other bonus features. Quality of these unrestored transfers is based on condition of source material, which can vary from very good to only fair.Since this film's original aspect ratio is 1.85 : 1, AFA may have either stretched the image horizontally, compressed it vertically or somehow cropped at top and bottom to fit their 16 × 9 format..Partway through its Vancouver, B.C. production, uncredited co-writer Dennis Hopper was called upon to direct OUT OF THE BLUE, the story of CeBe (Manz), a troubled teen girl and her dysfunctional family. Hopper also plays CeBe's drunken biker dad; Farrell is her needle-popping mom.The story opens with CeBe riding in the cab of her dad's big rig. While being affectionate toward his daughter, Don gets distracted and T-bones a school bus, killing some kids. He's imprisoned for 5 years and upon release goes right back into a self-destructive alcoholic lifestyle. As things quickly deteriorate between her fighting parents, an emotionally fragile Cebe does the absolutely unthinkable. With edgy punk music supplied by Canadian rockers the Pointed Sticks, this taut drama will stay with you for some time after you see it. Most highly recommended!Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 IMDb viewer poll rating.(7.2) Out of the Blue (Canada-1980) - Dennis Hopper/Linda Manz/Sharon Farrell/Don Gordon/Raymond Burr

Low sound
The sound did not work. This movie had literally no sound. I had my volume turned up to over 100 and I could hardly hear this. The sound was extremely low.

Unexpectedly wonderful
When I went to the theatre to see this 20 plus years ago (!!!) I did not know what to expect and at first it did not fit the description, but Dennis Hopper's directing and acting is a perfect back drop for Linda Manz's incredibe star performance. Way more "Punk" then most Punk films. And probably Dennis Hopper's most important film, and perhaps his least regarded.

Wretched quality
Avoid the AFA version....utterly unwatchable quality, both image and sound are terrible. Film deserves much better.

One Star
1 star for terrible home-made transfer. Appears to be ripped from the edited VHS release.

Cheesy
This is a pretty cheesy movie, too long, disjointed, even the old music is bad. I only got it to see what Hopper was up to, wh/is a waste of time. AVOID is my suggestion.

Out of the blue from a maverick director
Long before Larry Clark and his "Kids" came along Dennis Hopper (who made that other classic film about doomed youth - Easy rider) directed this brilliant and hard-edged drama about a rebellious young girl, CB whose father (played by Hopper) comes out of prison after a horrific drink driving auto accident with a school bus full of children. An angry film that perfectly captures the disillusionment of post-punk youth in modern America (even though the film was shot in Canada). CB's hopes for a normal family life when her father is released from prison however are shattered when a dark secret is gradually revealed and it isn’t long till things build to a shocking climax as the revelation about CB's father tears the whole family apart. A typically uncompromising film from rebel Hopper with excellent performances and gritty, realistic direction. This film is a must see for all fans of non-compromising realistic film. See it!

... and most perverted - what is there not to like. The final frames will literally blow you away
Neil Young soundtrack and Dennis at his nastiest and most perverted - what is there not to like. The final frames will literally blow you away. A seriously under rated movie.

Hopper love him or hate him
You either like Hopper or you do not. I find him fascinating even if I do not always enjoy every minute of a film. This applies here. To get to grips with it I will watch it again and who knows might hike the rating.
