Very good
Finally, an NHS specialist in weight-loss writing some sense, after all these years.Very good book. It's a shame it's not marketed better (got more support from other consultants and specialists). It would make a world of change. My only issue (but in fairness Dr Hameed keeps it simple) - is that there are other possible links to weight gain not discussed in depth in the book. (no doubt these are considered too medical to discuss). Perhaps in time, the public will learn more about the issues of:Food sensitivity/intolerance, thyroid health, inflammation, gut/wall permeability - auto-immunity, water retention etc.... and WHY other people can't lose weight so effectively

A life changing book
I was recommended this book by a good friend who works in the NHS. It was easy to read and so interesting that I finished it in 2 days. That was 4 weeks ago and now I am 3 kg lighter, happier and enjoying positive comments from people saying how well I look.3 years ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which was initially treated with steroids. I subsequently gained 6 kg and have wanted to get back to my old weight ever since. Now I feel I am on my way. There isn't one thing from the book that is a magic bullet: I recommend reading all the chapters in order to understand your relationship with food. Dr Hameed knows her stuff - the science is up to date and she has a great way of turning it into something tangible that you can incorporate into your daily life. The section on why convenience foods are anything but convenient, resonated with me and has changed the way I shop. I now only buy 'real food' and feel content that I am no longer under the marketing influence of companies who want me to get hooked on their ultra processed products. This is the healthiest and easiest way I have dropped pounds. I would recommend the book to anyone who wants to improve their relationship with food, become healthier and fit into the clothes in the back of their wardrobe that haven't been worn for ages as they are 'a bit too tight' :)

Some great points, some questioable
The information regarding insulin is first class and the 16 hour without food really will help to change the mindset. Porridge Oats and say Shredded wheat are ruled when in fact their salt and sugar content meet all of the authors criteria surely. With regard to Cholestorol well if you eat the recommended two eggs, a chunk of cheese, full fat milk and a pat of butter on a regular basis you reading will surely be high after a few months even if it was normal at the outset. The changing mindset plan is first class but the rest is just a low carb diet with a 16 hour fast. Neverthess this lady given really solid information regarding blood sugar

This programme changed my life
After a lifetime of being overweight and of failed diets, I was desperate enough to ask my GP to refer me for weight-loss surgery. Luckily for me, I ended up in Dr Saira's NHS clinic. Since October 2020, I have been following the programme on which this book is based. To date, I have lost 32kg in weight, and equally importantly, lost ALL the health issues that came with my old way of eating and living. I have not counted a single calorie in two years. I enjoy foods that I never imagined I could eat without guilt (especially cheese!) I don't miss all those the starchy carbs I thought I couldn't live without. Some reviews here claim that the Full Diet is just another rehash of Moseley/fasting/keto/paleo/whatever. I can testify that's absolutely not the case, because I have tried every one of those diets, with very little success. This is a low-insulin programme – everything we do is designed to keep insulin from spiking and therefore triggering fat-storage in our bodies. The re-setting of a dysfunctional metabolism and insulin function that's been chronically abused by diets, ultra-processed foodstuffs etc. is not just about WHAT we eat; it's about WHEN, and how long we leave between eating times; it's about getting the sleep that's essential to reset hunger and fullness hormones; it's about keeping active (not necessarily doing sport!) all day long, to help keep insulin low; it's about managing stress and understanding other triggers that make us crave junk food. But the fantastic news is that, once you start looking after your body in the ways this book sets out, the body responds very positively, very quickly. And once you start feeling better, more energetic, less depressed, with fewer cravings – it gets easier and easier to stick to the programme. For me, the hardest part of this programme was right at the start, because I simply couldn't believe that eating such delicious, full-fat foods would help me lose weight. I had so little self-belief that I was sure that if someone gave me permission to eat these foods until I was full, I'd simply never stop eating! How wrong I was. Almost immediately, my health issues improved. Week by week, month by month, the weight steadily went down. This is NOT a diet where you can earn "Syns" or "treats" in the form of chocolate, ice cream, crisps, whatever - or that reassures you that once you reach your goal weight you can reintroduce all that junk and somehow magically not regain the weight. If you're looking for a quick, temporary fix, this book will disappoint you. What is does is set out the cutting-edge science on the kind of foods and the lifestyle that your body needs all the time in order to work its best. Armed with those facts, you can then choose how you want to live. I am so, so glad that I chose Dr Saira's programme. My life has been utterly transformed by it.The book, like her course, is full of Dr Saira's empathy, humour, and scholarship. It's beautifully written and easy to follow. If you need to know why you've never been able to lose weight no matter how "good" you were, this book will explain it all. After that, it's up to you whether you want to do things differently from now on...

Life changing advice - highly recommended
This is about the first time I’ve ever bothered reviewing anything, good or bad, but feel the need to post something for this book and it’s content. If you follow the advice in Dr Hameed’s book (or most of it) particularly eating so as to avoid insulin spikes and time restricted eating (8 hours a day and finishing 2 hours before bedtime) I have no doubt you will feel huge benefits. I did the 12 week program set out in this book earlier this year and lost over 21kg and experienced a vast improvement in arrhythmia symptoms as well as having much improved energy and mood. After some practice and getting used to eating healthily in the way Dr Hameed describes, it becomes easy and quite natural as your taste and habits adapt. If you cut out the sugar/wrong type of carbs, the cravings for more of them pretty much disappear! Just stick with it because it’s well worthwhile! Dr Hameed’s writing is clear and concise and the principles in the book are well set out and the reason for them is all explained convincingly, which helps with the motivation. She’s a very knowledgeable and caring doctor and this comes across in the book. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.I’m continuing to eat healthily and have lost several kg more and am now close to target weight. Frankly, if someone like me who was so addicted to poor eating habits and above all, sugar, can do this program, pretty much anyone can!
