2 hour project to install, but worth it because it's a great lock for the money
The lock does what you need it to do. It'll lock the gate and keep all but the determined out. The lock is attractive and it easy to operate. However, it's not the easiest to install. I installed it myself with the help of a friend. I don't have a 1/2" drill bit and I needed the friend's drill bit, or else I could have done it myself. I watched the installed video on this page and it was very easy to follow the steps from start to finish. Suggest to go slowly and be precise and accurate with the measurements and each of the steps and you'll be rewarded with a handsome lock that does what it's expected to do. The pieces are plastic but they'll stand up to weather a little better that if the internal pieces were of metal. If the lock gets a little sticky put a little white grease on the strike pin and that will help it to latch smoother.

Easy to install
Had to replace the lock that our fence came with. It was just like this one so I chose this one so that I didn't have to cut anymore holes. It was easy to replace. It works so much better than the old lock, which we always had to fight to get it to work.

Great Gate Latch
I mounted this latch on the gate rather than the post because the gate swings outward and cannot be re-hinged.It took a bit of math (Pythagorean theorem) to figure out the gate gap needed to allow the latch to clear the post when opening/closing the gate. I needed to notch out the gate by 1/2".I don't have much in the way of tools, so drilling the 5/8" hole was a chore (especially since it must be very straight). Also, my 5/8" auger wasn't quite big enough for the plastic piping used with a wooden fence. I had to do a bit of reaming before the pipe would fit.Once the gap and hole were done, the actual installation was easy. The latch works great.Getting extra keys was not quite as easy as the LokkLatch web site suggests. Home Depot could not match the key, even when I told them to try a "KW5" key blank.. Ace Hardware was also having trouble until I told them to try a "KW5" key blank (that did the trick).

Got two of these now. Just a couple of observations.
Firstly, I'd totally give this thing 5 starts if the 3 different Home Depots that I went to were able to have their key machine reproduce keys for them. Turns out the computer key maker doesn't like the original keys because they're like 1mm longer than a standard Kwikset key. Absurd. If you're going to copy a standard, copy the whole damned standards.I love these things for how sturdy they are, and that I can give my pool guy access to a combo lockbox right next to it with a key tethered to the inside so that he can get access to my pool from the outside, but that you can also unlock it from the inside as well. I looked so long for something like this and a friend mentioned these. He hadn't used one yet, but after seeing mine, I'm pretty sure he's already ordered one for his gate.I didn't personally install my own because I had them installed by my fencing company when they replaced all my fencing and gates, so I'm not sure what the issue is with the direction, but I know it took them like 30 min per gate to install. My fencing company recommended these to me and told them they could get them for me, or I could just order them myself. I guess they install these pretty frequently now.HTH, YMMV

Well made lock
I really like this lock. It was really easy to install. It comes keyed to a Kwikset KW10 key; but I was able to rekey it to a KW1 fairly easily. It feels sturdy and well made.

Provides zero functionality
I wanted to like this latch. I saw some of the negative reviews and tend to discount 1 star reviews as whiners who were unhappy about something else about the shopping experience or that simply weren't bright enough to figure out how to use it correctly. So I bought this piece of garbage anyway. And not just one of them. I bought one for both of my gates. PAY ATTENTION TO THE 1 STAR REVIEWS on this one.First of all the lock is all plastic. Including many of the working parts. And not some rigid space-age kind of industrial plastic, but rather a flimsy bendable nylon-like plastic. I'm pretty sure the lock wouldn't stand up to pressure from a stiff wind on it.The bigger issue is that the lock mechanism doesn't. It has one job ... to lock. If the lock is off of the gate you can twist the key in lock and you can hear this little plastic mechanism inside click to indicate it is locked. And then you can turn it the other way to hear another little plastic mechanism click. But the moment you place it on your gate post one or both of the keys stops turning far enough to click. It simply won't lock. And because the whole housing and assembly bends with the plastic feel of the mechanism you aren't sure whether you can apply any additional pressure without snapping something (either the flimsy key off in the lock or the plastic mechanism inside it). I seriously tried installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the lock about 5 times to see if I could get it in just the right spot. Finally got the key to lock the gate from the outside ... once. Then I could only get it to unlock the gate but not lock it again ... which really defeats the purpose of having a key on the outside of the gate. Then I wasn't able to lock it from either side. Seriously it locked a total of one time. Once. Uno.For reference, I am super handy. I grew up repairing small engines on my fleet of lawnmowers that I used for my lawn mowing business. I have remodeled three homes including plumbing, electrical, yardwork, flooring, etc. I have a cadre of tools and know how to use them. Honestly, I started taking this gate hardware out of the bag it is shipped in (yes, they ship it in a plastic bag) and immediately knew this thing was not going to stand up to regular use. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried installing it anyway. I now have a big hole in my brand new fence post, am unable to lock my gate, and in the three days since I tried installing it, the screws are already pulling out of the gate ... and the new gate is super light weight.Save yourself time, money, and the hassle of having to do an Amazon return and avoid this lock. You'll be doing yourself a big favor. Again, I seriously wanted to like this lock, but it provides zero value. It simply won't be durable enough to stand up to any kind of regular use (the screws are already pulling out of the gate after a couple days of light use while I tried to figure out next steps) and the locking mechanism doesn't provide any security. Even if you could get the lock to work, I have serious doubts about how long it would do so. I seriously doubt it would survive the 1 month the Amazon return window with anything more that the lightest amount of use on the lightest gate. This lock would not deter ANYONE who seriously wanted to get through the gate. It is total garbage.

This worked out incredibly well and I love the look so much
This worked out incredibly well and I love the look so much. They give you several mounting options and everything was so easy to assemble. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a much nicer gate latch system.

Easy to Install
The installation video was excellent. I would suggest reading the entire installation instructions before starting though. I failed to do this . The last two directions should have been addressed earlier in the process. It wasn’t a big problem, but struggle with having to repeat unnecessary tasks.

Very secure
This latch came recommended to me by a friend and I am very pleased with the purchase. It is not a cheap latch so I waited until I was able to purchase it at a much reduced price on the Amazon website. My neighbour fixed it on the gate for me and he assures me it was very easy to do. I delayed writing a review until I used it for a good while so I could be sure to give accurate findings. The latch has provided an extra barrier of protection to a back gate offering a layer of security that certainly seems difficult to breach. This has meant that I have gone out knowing the property is very secure when I am away / at sleep at night. However, it is absolutely important to do a risk assessment identifying potential alternate ways that access could be achieved such as bypassing the lock and climbing over the gate / fencing. Be sure to consider all options. Being complacent and relying only on the latch to keep you and your property safe could leave you vulnerable. That said, one of the best purchases I have made and I thoroughly recommend it.

Great latch. Any decent handyman can install it.
Quality latch. It's very tough weatherproof, corrosion-proof plastic and steel. All pieces mount with two screws that are accessible when the gate is closed plus two that are not, so it can't be removed while the gate is locked. The key turns easily with a satisfying click to lock and unlock. You don't need a key to use it if you leave it unlocked; it's convenient two-sided latch, standard lever on one side and simple push-button on the other.Installation is straightforward and simple: you drill a hole through the post for the lock's push rod, line up the two sides of the post assembly with the rod between them, and screw them to the post; then line up the latch peg so it's centred in the latch and screw it onto the gate. The only parts that take any skill or effort are drilling a straight, level hole (either by drilling from both sides or by using a long bit from one side), and making sure the pieces are lined up before screwing them down. But it comes with a guide that helps with lining them up. A clumsy or careless person might do a messy job of it, making it sticky to operate (or maybe if the post and/or gate aren't very solid and don't line up consistently, or if you use too small a drill bit), but with a proper installation it's a great latch.Edit: Just adding a comment about someone who said it assumes your gate opens inward and doesn't work if it opens outward: This is incorrect. If your gate opens outward you just put the latching side on the outside. This is NOT any less secure. The latch is opened by a lever, and there's a lever on both sides. And it locks, and there's a keyhole on both sides. Which side the latch itself is on makes no difference in operation or security - if it's locked you can't open it from either side unless you have the key.

Good quality
The media could not be loaded. Great to scare people who wants to go in. They get intimidated with then keylock. Very easy, tap to get in. Quality is A+

Great Lock
I have two of these locks. One in use for 3 years. Both installed on 4x4 wood posts, has lasted thru the winter and hot summers, rain, snow. Take the time to install and read the instructions carefully. One thing to be careful is when you drill the hole thru the post to ensure it is perfectly square to the post, I used a drill guide and pilot hole. Swapped the screws for security screws as if the screws are removed from the outside then the gate can be opened. This is not a super high security lock but serves to keep people out of my backyard, if they want to get in they will anyway..

A really nice addition to our fence gate!
We were travelling a bit and wanted someone to water the plants in our backyard, instead of going through the house and worrying about the alarm. We wanted to give someone access to the backyard with a key. This is a high quality door lock. The instructions are excellent. My problem was the gap between the door and post were super close so I had to use the router (was a cedar fence) to sink the components. I really like the gate lock. It works perfectly but I think it is way too expensive. If it was 60 dollars (CDN) that would be reasonable. 110 dollars CDN is ridiculous but they aren't a lot of good options.
