Not Up-To-Date
There have obviously been numerous changes to Storyline because many of the described steps no longer work. e.g. it will tell you to duplicate a state when only a copy option is available. Those are two very different options in Storyline. While I was able to gain some basic knowledge from the book it was very frustrating to attempt to navigate the new options when they didn't match up with the book.Unless they update it I can't recommend buying this.

What a Life Saver!
This book is a blessing! I have 2 months to become proficient in Articulate Storyline, and I've been trying on my own through videos and a paid course and have gotten absolutely no where! This book has downloadables on their site that will allow you to follow along with step-by-step instructions from the book and create an actual course! I have gotten more hands on experience from reading this book than I have taking a paid course and through YouTube. This book has rebuilt my confidence. The screenshots used in this book are on point and accurate with Storyline's software and interface, and there's explanations behind every step. I'm a teacher, so I can honestly say that this book is well organized and focuses on the creating a solid foundation in Storyline. I'll be ordering the advanced book next.Thank you, Kevin Siegel & Kal Hadi. I can't imagine how your in person classes are if your book is this clear.Well worth the money if you need to get comfortable working with the basics of Storyline.

Must have workbook
I am an instructional design business owner and am required to work in all different types of eLearning development software. Lacking spare time I need something I can learn from and rapidly master a software. Kevin knocks it out of the park with a workbook that is easy to use. Kevin uses his years of hands on teaching and instructional design to develop these workbooks. These workbooks help my business by giving me the knowledge and skills needed to meet my clients expectations!

Excited to purchase, disappointed with the substance
Being a completely new user to Articulate Storyline 360, I was really excited to get this book in hopes that it would help me jump start a few projects and fill in some gaps. Honestly, I had relatively low expectations and left with them unfulfilled. I will attempt to outline the good and the bad in this review in hopes that it helps others.First, the good:The examples are really easy to follow, detailed, and simple to understand.Generally, the exercises demonstrate more than one way to accomplish the same task, allowing for a better fit into your workflow. All the files can be downloaded from the reference link at the writer's website. That's pretty much it for the good. The bad:The majority of the 200-page book is filled with screenshots. This means that something that could be described in a paragraph takes pages in the book. Don't be surprised when you finish the entire book in just a few short hours wondering what you paid for and having done only a few short exercises.Speaking of those exercises, the beginning of the book makes you think you're developing the end-product during the course of the book. That's really not the case as you basically do a few tweaks to files along the way.Concepts are introduced but never really explored. Perhaps a deep-dive isn't intended for this book, but there certainly should be some discussion on how some of the concepts are applied. Frankly, the lack of discussion about use cases is embarrassingly deficient. Forgive me if that sounds harsh, but I was disappointed. There are some pieces that feel really disjointed. You start working on themes and slide masters and find yourself in a project where much of that is discarded by the second or third exercise. It seemed like this was a book written as a student guide for a classroom course where an instructor might add a lot of value by discussing concepts. Without the instructor, the book becomes a "follow these screenshots" publication that lacks a lot of substance.Overall, I can't recommend this book. I learned more from watching a few hours of videos from the Articulate website and on YouTube than I did from the exercises in this book.I'd really like to check out the "Beyond the Essentials" book to see if it better meets my expectations, but suspecting it is much like this one, I'll probably avoid it.

Highly Recommended for new users - excellent learning tool so far!
I've been frustrated and struggling to understand Articulate Storyline 360 for the past month or so and feel like I've been getting nowhere fast. I ordered this book the other day and am currently halfway through the guided activities which I expect to complete over the next day or two. The book is 186 pages and includes 55 activities/lessons.In less than 48 hours, my grasp of Storyline's "essentials" has grown exponentially. Prior to receiving this guide, I've read through various tutorials and viewed videos and webinars but am always left feeling more confused than before I started. Iโm fully expecting to update my review to five stars later this week when I complete all of the training. Thank you for creating such an easy to follow guide and I look forward to purchasing Beyond the Essentials in the very near future.

Good material, very informative
I'm having to teach myself how to use Storyline at work and the first source I turned to was this IconLogic book. I have used their books in the past and knew it would be a great resource. I can't give it 5 stars because they no longer spiral-bind their books. The older books I have were spiral-bound and they were much easier to use and study from. Also, there were several typographical errors in this book, something that the editor and/or proofreader should have caught. Still, it's a good book and a great resource, that's why I went ahead and ordered the Beyond Essentials book as a follow-up.

Excellent written book and tutorials
Although I am very familiar with PowerPoint, I was totally new to Articulate Storyline 360 and I am finding the tutorials excellent. They are really well put together and very easy to follow. I have worked through many step-by-step tutorials since the late 80s, and often found that I had to step back or redo a tutorial in order to gain sufficient understanding to take the steps on my own. This is so well and thought through put together that by stepping through it, not once I had to step back and retake the steps in order to gain understanding or maintain comprehension. I can recommend this book to everyone who is new to and wants to learn Storyline 360!

Extremely helpful workbook
This workbook was extremely helpful! I needed to learn the program very quick for a new job and was able to create complex scenarios after working through this book. This book is very thorough and almost fail proof I might say. Will definitely get the advanced one as well.

Great book for beginners
Great book for beginners. My only complaint is that the pictures were black and white and unclear.
