My little boy loves his
Got his for my 2 year old and it his single favourite toy. Its got a decent motor and can pull quite a few of the trains.we've got a mixed set of wooden tracks from various charity shops and it handles all of them without issue. One thing, his love for it means we churn through the batteries. so I would get yourself a cheap pack of AAA's to go with it. Own brand seems to work fine.needs a tiny screwdriver to open the battery compartment, which I couldn't find and led to a frustrated little man so make sure you have it all to hand when you gift it.all in all, would get another one.

Bigjigs Mighty Red Loco 🚂🚃🚃🚃
The media could not be loaded. Bigjigs Rail Mighty Red Loco Battery Operated Train. My son loves Bigjigs Trains most of the trains he owns are wooden sets but this one is a plastic battery operated one that still works on the Bigjigs wooden track.(other wooden track is suitable such as Chad valley, Brio, Ikea ect.)It has 3 settings forwards and backwards as well off train takes 1 AAA battery and not 2 as in the description. As far as im aware it came with a small piece of track with a built in magnetic rail buffer i say aware because all my sons other Bigjigs trains came with track and this was left on the table when i removed the box but i have to admit i didnt notice it when i removed the train 🤷.

A really useful worker engine
In any wooden train set, this engine is going to be very highly prized, and get more attention than any of the push-along engines- especially for kids who are getting a little older and a little more ambitious with their layouts. Be prepared to have a lot of spare AAA batteries on hand (not just the two you’ll need to have to get this working at all), because it will get a lot of use.A big plus point for the playability is that it’s a good little worker of an engine too. It can go up inclines, it can trundle over changes between different brands of track, it can pull some carriages. There are limits to what it’s capable of, which are exceeded by my son when he tries to attach as many carriages as possible to it to see what it can do, but as long as it’s not excessively loaded, it will happily trundle round and round seemingly indefinitely. It’s not annoyingly noisy either, which was one thing I’d been concerned about. So far, battery life seems decent enough- it’s hard to tell as we’re still on the first pair of AAA’s by the time I needed to write this review, but it has done a fair distance so far without any sign of slowing down yet. It feels as though it will be as efficient battery-wise as a Trackmaster train, as far as it’s possible for me to tell.Bigjigs is a famous brand that your kids will recognise if they’ve persuaded you to show them online videos of other people’s massive wooden layouts (Izzy’s, anyone?). It feels well made and durable- but then, so do most of the supermarket brand wooden track packs we’ve bought or had bought for us in the past. There is such a thing as a remote controlled, battery powered engine for wooden tracks, which is the absolute premier league. But as a step up from push-along trains, and for the sheer joy of seeing a child’s face as they see the train start to move of its own accord for the first time, this is worth the relatively modest investment (of fifteen quid at time of writing).

Can extend the life and interest in your wooden train kit
This is a bright coloured, well made little engine that fits most wooden tracks. It transforms the ‘push along’ set to a ‘set it off and watch’ – maybe in preparation for those whose interest continues into model railway enthusiasm. It has a handy little moving magnetic coupling which enables a bit more movement for the carriage behind. – (may well help stay on the tracks if at speed down slope when going round a bend – something not tested yet but will be fun trying. Also how many carriages will the engine pull. Lots to discover). Having said this, the price point tends to makes it comparable with the well known branded alternative which seems to have more metal parts if this is important. An AAA battery needs buying as it is not included but once in place is ready for fun play.
