Amazing book
Great great book. Fully illustrated with labeled and annotated contemporary ship models. Its not very long (128 pages) but is an easy read and full of close-up colour pics. If your interested in the subject of how these ships were built this is a great book. Its not exhaustive (128 pages) but i read it all over several days and am now forced to order more in the series from this author.

How 10th century English man of wars are built.
All the information on 19th century shipbuilding was there. Great detail. I purchased the kindle version. To see all the detail you need a hard copy of the book.

Illustrated study of 18th C shipbuilding
This hardback is a 128 Page, 255mm x 195mm, well illustrated with plentiful colour photos (most pages), technical study of the shipwrights work in late 18th Century Warship construction. It uses the contemporary 'Navy Board' models to illustrate this. He has some lovely 'whole dockyard' diarama models that illustrate shipbuilding further than I've seen in other works. He also shows launching frames that are often edited out.The author is a former curator of the National Maritime museum, with many other respected works to his name. The scholarship is evident in the details shown. His commitment is also clear in the fluency and beauty of the work. I recommend anyone with an interest to visit, not just Greenwich but Chatham also. The author is responsible in part for how well each has been preserved and displayed: Wonderful! The chapters are:1. Labour and materials2.Starting the Ship3. Frames4, Outside Planking5. Fittings6. In the waterAppendix (18th C 'costs' for each part of construction of 5 main classes of ship)Further reading (1 side) contemporary and modern sourcesQuite a nice way of looking at this area. Different and less popular than a simple model catalog, brought in reach of a wider audience. Nicely done.RECOMMENDED

Clear drawing of how it was done
I enjoyed the detail of how these ships were built. The text told the story well. It is possible to trace the improvements made down the ages. Sadly skills that have almost been lost forever. An excellant book for enthusiasts.
