Is there a way to reset the toner levels with the same cartridges?

The bottom unit is the drawer.  The top unit is for special printing jobs like envelopes.  You can add extra drawers for other paper sizes if you desire.  I sure the brother company will be very happy to sell you extra drawers.    Thanks.        GWM for  Government Services

is there a off brand toner/ink for this printer that works well? The toner /ink is outrageously expensive? Thank you

OEM cartridges are expensive. The printer itself is around $450 now, and a set of high capacity cartridges will cost more than the printer. $80 ish for black, and 130x3 for the 3 colors. That is about $500.   A set of aftermarket cartridges will be under $100.
and a set of toner refill bottles maybe 30-40. And you get probably 2 refills from that...

I tried Aztech. "Do it wiser" and "New Era"  remanufactured  cartridges and toner and all those brands do work fine for me.   Refilling the Brother OEM cartridges indeed did not work well, they would fail calibration after refill. 
But I have no trouble when refilling the aftermarket cartridges.  As to the print quality, you can make up your own mind if the quality in unsatisfactory for you or not.  It is good enough for me. 
I would be interested in hearing specifics about any documented damage to these printers, caused by using an aftermarket toner, or aftermarket cartridge. I looked through the aftermarket toner/cartridge reviews on Amazon, 
and could not find any printer damage reported.

There is another way to look at this: these printers are fairly cheap.  When you bought the printer, they gave you a deal in the hope that you will only use OEM cartridges. 
So if you go aftermarket,  you are letting the manufacturer down. :-)
