Substantial in every way...
IntroductionI needed a new outdoor IP camera to wire into my Synology NAS, and this looked like a pretty good option. The features this camera offer are simply excellent – 1080p, 4x Optical Zoom, Pan & Tilt, WiFi… You name it. Foscam are a big name in IP cameras and having been around for donkeys years, I had confidence that it would be a decent bit of kit.PackagingAs expected, the retail packaging that this camera came in is fairly good – a nice box advertising all the features that the camera offers, and the camera itself comes nicely protected inside the box. You also get instructions, a CD, wall fixings, a UK power adaptor and – a nice touch – an Ethernet cable.Initial ImpressionsMy initial impressions were that this camera is 1) Bigger than I expected, and 2) Excellent quality. I had expected a plastic construction but this is solid metal – it’s the business and is certainly made to last. In terms of dimensions, the camera will protrude about 23cm from the surface to which it is mounted, and is about 21cm tall from top to bottom. It’s roughly 11cm wide. It will be taller if you attach the antenna for the WiFi.Set upAs with most IP cameras, a doddle to set up. I took it out of its box, plugged in the power and the Ethernet lead. I downloaded the Foscam camera finder app from the website to locate the IP address of the camera, and then logged in using my web browser. I also downloaded the iPhone app which allows mobile viewing. Simple.Picture QualityGood quality, as you would expect from a decent 1080p product. Where this camera excels though is at night time. Everything is crystal clear, and crisp.ConclusionA high quality, nicely made camera. Due to it’s size it’s possibly more suited to small business applications rather than residential/consumer markets but wherever used it will certainly provide high quality imagery. The lack of POE means that it will require a separate power feed even when using the Ethernet connection, which may limit some installations but it probably requires more power than a POE injector could supply. In all, a good product that feels as though it will stand the test of time in the harshest of weather conditions, is easy to set up and importantly will capture the best quality images to protect your house/business. Reccommended.Pro’s- Image Quality- Night vision- Optical zoom- Ease of setup- Long breakout lead, long enough to go through the thickest of walls.Con’s- Size & weight- Lack of Power over Ethernet

Great camera, very well made - high quality. Not cheap and not the best if you want to use wi-fi to connect.
Great camera and really well made - with top camera day or night. Quite expensive. Works well when connected to the broadboand router by ethernet. Not very reliable when connected to wif-fi though so if you're relying on not wanting to drill holes in the wall to feed more than a power cable, you might be dissappointed.

The application and webcam plugin is very poor and compatible with a few browsers and operating systems
Cables are so big and require big holes in the walls. The application and webcam plugin is very poor and compatible with a few browsers and operating systems. The motion detection requires more work as rain is detected as motion. The API is simple and great, I have developed an OpenHab2 binding using it. OVNIF support is also fantastic. The FTP feature is one of the great features of this camera as I can save the videos to my Synology station and it offers great flexibility.

Customer service is second to none.
This is a very well built camera and works very well after you get everything fine tuned. As with any technical device it does take some time to learn how to set it up and use it. The help I have received from [email protected] has been brilliant. Devin Jin's, (customer support representative), help has been second to none. He was very quick to respond to my questions, often only waited just a few minutes for a reply. He has gone the extra step to get me a replacement camera, free of charge, because of a fault caused by a voltage surge in the original which was not the fault of the camera. We will probably buy a second camera for the other areas not covered by the first camera.

Fun gadget
Bigger than I realised, the cable is short when it comes to putting on a wall near a socket. The app you download to your phone is slow and although the picture is good, the thing does not see humans, even after checking the settings 4/5 different times.Gets every pigeon, cobweb and falling leaf - never sees me, the postman or other visitors leave/arrive!The 24/7 customer service - useless! Lucky to get a 3 worded response similar to - don't understand every per 24 hour period.
