I am homeschooling my youngest child, and he goes through a lot of lead (and to less extent, erasers) because he looooves to doodle on his schoolwork.We prefer using mechanical pencils so that we aren’t constantly sharpening standard pencils. For myself, I prefer non-disposable pencils with a 0.5 or 0.3 mm lead. I rarely if ever use an eraser so that works out great for me. But my son is doing elementary work and needs a wider point so 0.7 mm is a great lead width and he erases quite frequently so these disposable pencils are actually perfect for him.He loves the bright red, yellow, green and blue colors of these pencils. The tops and bottom of each pencil are green (fitting I guess for “green” pencils) no matter what the color of the barrel is. I personally prefer pencils that aren’t crazy colored but my son loves the look of these, as would most kids.While my son loves these pencils for their looks, I love that they are made out of 65% recycled material, so I feel a little less guilty about them than standard Bic mechanical pencils. Plus you can keep the pencils and recycle them using teracycle (just print out a free shipping label and send them off).These are exactly like the non-recycled pencils in size and shape (the squared off rounded barrels have the same great grippy feeling). As with the standard mechanical pencils, these have an eraser that actually works, cleanly removing pencil marks from standard paper. They’re just as lightweight and comfortable to write with as the standard mechanical pencils I’ve used in the past.You get three pieces of lead in these pencils as usual. The pencils write smoothly and the lead doesn’t smudge unless you draw over and over on a spot on the paper. The lead is pretty sturdy and doesn’t break unless you press hard.The pencils do have clips but they’re not the sturdiest.I will be ordering many more of these recycled plastic mechanical pencils again in the future. I appreciate that they’re environmentally friendly and how well they work.

These BIC ReVolution #2 Mechanical Pencils from BIC are reliable and sturdy. My immediate concern was whether the 0.7 mm leads would be robust enough to write steadily and cleanly, without requiring too much hand pressure and without the lead snapping after prolonged, strenuous use. Mechanical pencils that I've used in the past have had an unfortunate tendency to break their lead after continuous use for any length of time.Too much hand pressure or an ill-chosen approach angle might result in breaking the lead, a really frustrating waste of a good lead pencil. I've been really happy with the performance of these pencils. They're easy to hold as well: no hand cramping and they don't require too much pressure to write free and easily. The erasers are excellent: they erase completely and without smudging. There are no rubber skid marks on the page. These are also a superb value, costing 24 cents per pencil and providing enough pencils to last for a very long time. I'm really pleased with these, given how much I write with my favorite implement.
