This book needs to be taken down. This man was exonerated! He served 16 years for rape and he was innocent. The author put an innocent man in jail.

Don't recommend
This is not a good book and I don't recommend it and The author wrongfully accused someone of a horrible crime and ruined his life. He spent 16 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit because of this person.

This book shouldn’t be sold
This book is based on a false identification that ruined the life of a innocent man. If the identification was false, who knows what other aspects of this tale are false also.

Falsely Accused Innocent Man
The best part of this book is that all of her lies within it compared to the actual events ended up exonerating the man she falsely accused. She ruined an innocent mans life. This book shouldn’t be able to be sold without that disclaimer.

If I could give 0 Stars in would
Book was written on lies, the man she claimed was her attacker was completely innocent, it was case built on her lies and racism. She shouldn't make another dollar off this book, instead all profits should go to the poor man who's life she ruined.

Not Lucky and currently lacking courage
Mr. Broadwater's conviction on all counts have been thrown out by a NY superior court judge and endorsed by the relevant and current DA for the county. The author and her publisher now lack the integrity and courage to apologize to Mr. Broadwater.

I Feel Sick Owning This Book
That it is known that Alice Sebold sent an innocent man to prison over the contents of this book, I feel ashamed owning it. After this review posts, I intend to delete this from my profile. Her apology did not acknowledge her culpability for the act, where it was a worse act of violence. 40 years, 40 years....

Moving and gripping
I read this book in one evening. I disagree with an earlier review who suggested that the rape scene was far too graphic. On the contrary, it was clearly Alice Sebold's aim to deliver the full detail and why shouldn't she? Don't pick up a book about rape if you don't expect to be shocked. I felt I could feel every moment of her anguish and then later I could feel her desire and willingness to succeed despite the terrible things she suffered. Incredibly moving, just as good as The Lovely Bones if not better. I just hope they don't make it into a poor, diluted film.

It is hard to say I liked the book
A very personal account of her life. Heartbreaking at times. It is hard to say I liked the book, the subject is not something everybody wants to read about. A very brave lady who went trough hell and back. I cannot say I would like to read about this again, but it helped me understand certain things...It takes guts to write down what happened to her and offer it to the world. It raises awareness and brings hope too as she rebuilds her life.

Inspirational
To read how a young woman has endured so much pain and has lived with this is inspirational. There are lot of reviews that claim this book is too graphic. However I think that the author has a right to portray her rape exactly as it happened, as nobody but her can comprehend that horror. This book is not written to please people, but to address the subject of rape and the catastrophic effect it has on the victim, and their friends and family. This book is worth a read, it is educating and well written.

Heart-wrenching read
This true story is not for the faint hearted, an emotional book which will have you reaching for the tissues from the start.A book which makes you question society and its punishments for rape and one where you really empathise with this writer.

Lucky
This is a very sad, but at the same time uplifting true story of the author who was raped while at collage. It realistically described the healing process and all of the emotional setbacks she encountered during the time following the rape. Amazing story.
