Product description CD > POPULAR MUSIC > MOVIE SOUNDTRACK .com No matter whether or not you think Sylvester Stallone should have gone back to the Rocky trough one more time, this soundtrack is fun because it's basically a collection of music from all the past movies in the saga, ending with Three 6 Mafiaยs rap contribution to Rocky Balboa, "It's a Fight." The CD starts off with Bill Conti's "Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky)," which remains so totally awesome that we can only bow to its 1970s brilliance; a 2006 remix tagged on at the end doesn't improve on it. Oddly, the sequencing isn't chronological, maybe so the two best-known tracks--the original theme and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," from Rocky III--could start off the CD with a one-two punch. But that also means that we zig-zag back and forth in the Rocky saga. James Brown's "Living in America" (from Rocky IV) has aged rather well, but the compilers realized Bill Conti's proto-disco score for the first installment still fares the best, and so five tracks are pulled from it (compared to just one from Rocky V). That old warhorse's still got some juice. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I Can't Believe How Incredible This Sounds! Capitol Does It Again!
Woah! The remastering here is simply some of the best I've heard EVER! The improvements are striking!!! You would not believe that some of these recordings are a good 20+ years old! Finally, someone gets those Survivor songs right! Previous "best of" releases by both Volcano/BMG Heritage ('Ultimate Survivor', 2004) and Sony BMG ('The Best Of', 2006) have left me wanting more from "Eye Of The Tiger" and "Burning Heart". While these recent masters have improved over the original releases on CD, the mastering jobs still have left these songs sounding rather flat with little depth and punch. They had more potential. Thanks to the wonderful mastering courtesy of Capitol Records, the sound on these songs on this release is AMAZING! Listen to those opening guitar riffs in "Eye Of The Tiger", and you won't believe that this song was released in 1982. It's the best I've heard these songs sound ever! Thank you to Capitol for yet again another brilliant upgrade. Then we have "Hearts On Fire" by John Cafferty. I would have never guessed that this recording is 20 years old by playing this CD. It's as punchy and clean as any recording from 2006. The song rumbles and shakes with it's kicking drums and underlying bass. Again, I cannot stress how amazing this sounds! It's like a wall of sound coming at you! I never imagined that it could be this great! The late James Brown features with his 1986 hit, "Living In America", which benefits wonderfully from the sonic upgrade. The underlying bass line has never been more present. Again, the recording is crisp and full. In fact, the music on the entire disc has never sounded better than on this release. I'm still puzzled as to how these tracks were tweaked so well. I highly recommend this disc for anyone looking for sound that goes leaps beyond any previous releases and for music that shines in a whole new dimension.

The best available maybe, but not as good as it could be.
I really enjoy this compilation. The songs that have been remastered sound fantastic. I also have "The Rocky Story" CDย The Rocky Story: The Original Soundtrack Songs From The Rocky Movies (Soundtrack Anthology) ย but I think this album (The Best of Rocky) has better sound quality. I thought the sound bytes from the movies would add a fun tone to the album but I don't think they were handled very well. Whoever did the editing to bring the various bits together probably wasn't a Rocky fan. Some of the sound clips don't fit well with the songs that precede it or follow it. And the actual sound clips themselves aren't edited very well. Most of them come off as too short and sound like they were chopped off right at the end of the syllable which gives it a harsh quality as opposed to a nice flow through the story.

Inspirational
I will never forget that night in 1976 when i attended the showing of Rocky, It transformed my life and inspired me beyond words. I have never felt the impact from any movie as i did with Rocky. It still is the most inspirational film of all time for me. The music matched the intensity of the fight to go the distance in life. The story behind the story about Stallone writing the script and with nothing he refused thousands of dollars to sell it outright but rather stuck to his heart and dreams and negotiated to play the part himself was just as inspiring as the movie. Anyone who has a dream in their heart has to love Rocky because it's obvious that God does. This CD captures all the songs that move and stir your spirit just as the movie did. The original theme from Rocky will be played at my funeral.

Great "Best Of" Album
The album is less focused on the latest movie, so much as it is a "greatest hits" album of all of the Rocky movie soundtracks. All of the great songs are here (Living in America, Eye of the Tiger, Burning Heart, Hearts on Fire, the Rocky Theme, etc.) I love it and it just makes me love the old movies even more. The 3 6 Mafia track stuck out like a sore thumb and should have been left off, as it is a weak track anyway.

Knockout Punch for the Ears!
Classic music along with dialogue snippets from all the movies creates the ultimate audio compendium for Stallone's iconic character and film series. The gapless tracks flow well, so this is a much more pleasing edition than just a cursory soundtrack for the last film (although "Creed" is coming and may be placed amongst the canon). The remastered "Eye of the Tiger" track has never sounded better.

The Best Music of Rocky
This is the best of Rocky indeed. It has all of the best songs from the movie, plus the sounds any Rocky fan would be familiar with such as the tune that was playing during several of his training scenes. Any music that you can remember from the movies is on here. What a find!

Good with some exceptions
You will get most of the main titles from the Rocky series and I found that enjoyable. The one song missing that I think should have been included is "The Measure of a Man". I like the song. Just my opinion.
