While reeling silk filament from the cocoons, silk builds up on the carrier rod, and is periodically cut open and removed. Because they still contain the sericin layer, they are stiff. You can use them as it is, or pull apart thin layers. Make brooches, bracelets, necklaces, use for embellishment, use with wool for wet felting or for needlefelting.

I wasn't sure what I was actually getting when I ordered this; am very new to wet felting, but that is what I got it for.
