Cacti and Succulents: An Illustrated Guide to the Plants and their Cultivation

I loved the beautiful pictures of the cacti and the succulents. A lot of great information on the background of these plants, where they come from, how to identify them and how to care for them. A lot of research went into this book and I would recommend it to anyone that loves cacti and succulents .

love this book. its just as the reviewer said that said You cant judge a book by its cover. This one has both good pics and cover. and he is right by saying so. It does have excellent info in in it. propagation and several varieties or cultivars of each plant. Very nice. I just bought some succulents and it looks like they are in there even tho Home Depot didnt label them. I just graduated as a horticulture major and I want to learn more about these plants. Great book!! Also I just got two other books with the exact same info in them. I was looking like these pics look the same and they were. This is much better.

It really was up to my expectations. I've recently developed a passion for cactus.They are great companions, give wonderful flowers, need little care and have amazing forms. I bought the book to be able to understand more about them. The excellent pictures, very difficult to accomplish, (try photographing one of them) meet my goal: to be able to baptize them correctly. I strongly believe that images need to be named, and to do so, this book is marvelous. My thanks to the authors for all the work done to put it together. A last comment, classifying cactus enhances memory, attention and other brain functions that one needs to keep on going as age sets in.

One of the best written books. It tells of it's history, uses, detailed how to care and much more., The writing makes it exciting and interesting. I never liked history because the books were so flat and boring, But this isn't. He writes so that you want to read more, The book is Very Informative.

This is a very helpful book. For those of you who like to be creative there are many areas dealing with the novel ways to use succulent plants for various projects ....even wedding bouquets.

I was very disappointed in this book. It gives only the barest information about the plants and left me with even more questions about which to plant and where. It has a lot of nice pictures, but mostly tells where the plants originated. I was looking for a guide to cultivation, but this is a long way from that. I enjoyed seeing the pretty pictures, but am left not knowing much more than I knew before I bought it. It's a book you might look at for half an hour, put on a shelf and not look at again. I'll have to continue my search.

Very disappointed in this book, as it was not what I was expecting. Not only too technical for me, but the book concentrates more on the cactus flowers rather than the cacti itself. I bought it to help identify cacti and discover their size and shape, and although there is a description of the various cacti in the book, the illustrations concentrate on the flowers, so identification is almost impossible for many of the plants. I'm sure the book will be useful to many, but for a novice like myself, not too useful.

I thoroughly recommend this book for anyone with even the vaguest interest in cacti and succulents. I find it an informative book that gives you interesting reading material covering succulents and their habitats and how to care for them. The book also gives you a basic but still helpful guide to browse through at any time, to assist you in recognising the different species of succulents and cacti. The guide shows wonderful colour images of various common and unusual types from each species and good size paragraphs so that you can learn a little about them.A very good book for anyone to own, my copy has already become well thumbed as I am always looking in it as I spot a cactus or other succulent I wish to learn about so I am able to browse the images to discern what species the plant is first of all and then I can then read the short paragraphs to learn more.One of the best books to have amongst your gardening and house-plant books at home.

The book arrived today and I have looked through it. Very informative and useful information and I like the way the book is set out makes for easier reading.

This is a useful and beautiful book. It contains relevant information (e.g. repotting, watering, species guidance) and clear attractive photos. It has encouraged further exploration into the world of cacti and succulents and is often picked up for a browse. It will not sit idly on the bookshelf :-)

A very comprehensive publication which gives excellent background to growing environments to the many species that are covered. Illustrations are clear and vivid.
