There's a reason there's no preview...
This book was just OK. I don't know who wrote the rest of these reviews but I would bet most are either hired reviewers or Couture fight campers/fanboys. It gets three stars for having basically good advice and a fair number of different exercises, including fundamental lifts as well as more exotic bosu/ball/band/plyobox work. The reviewers who talk up the "fight camp" section are clearly full of it--unless you have a sparring partner willing to go at it with you and a working knowledge of basic grappling and standing work, you're not going to be able to do this on your own. The lateral movement section is also pretty lacking, consisting of almost exclusively rowing variations. The "sport specific" training section is mildly interesting, and there are likely a handful of exercises throughout the book that you have never seen before, but you could ultimately figure it all out on your own. That's why there's no preview--if you could preview the sections you'd realize he just shows you a basic movement and then how to do that movement using variations with a bosu/ball/band. One clever thing he shows is strapping a resistance band to a bench press so that you keep the press difficult throughout the range of motion (whereas normally a bench press is hardest only at the beginning). A few interesting partner exercises but again nothing revolutionary. The photos are glossy but they're also lazy. Lots of eyes closed shots suggesting they did the whole book in a few short photoshoots and had no retakes. I think this book is worth $10... maybe.

A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR FIGHTERS!!!!!If you dont have this book and you train or are traning people then your missing out on alot of smart information. I have alot of different workout books but this is one of the first ones that tells you why you should do an exercise.Plus who wouldnt want to read the conditioning secrets of the top athelet who has never ending cardio!!The only thing this book doesnt have is a somewhat diet plan or routine for someone that can only workout 3-4 days a week who might have a daytime/nighttime job. but it does state to change the workout that suits your time and abilities.ONE OF THE BEST FIGHER WORKOUT BOOKS I'VE COME ACROSS.

Drills and exercises for the fighter and the common man
Randy Couture's "Xtreme Training: The Fighter's Ultimate Fitness Manual" offers a large number of drills and exercises. There are drills upon drills for conditioning training or for improving your general health and being fit. There's also a small section covering fighting techniques.Color photos amply illustrate the moves. Some exercises require weights or a medicine ball or a partner. A few exercises involve long ropes, a huge tire, a sledgehammer, a Swiss ball, a heavy punch bag, the BOSU, boxes (for pyometrics), and partner bands. The topics are generally organized as listed below.Strength and conditioning drills and exercises:Metabolic conditioningPosterior chainUpper body pushUpper body pullCoreFighting drills and exericises:Sport-specific standingSport-specific groundAt the end of the book, there is a 10 week training program. There are also three short training programs.

Great Straight Forward Guide
Much better than his previous guides, Randy Couture's Xtreme Training is a great guide for those wishing to increase their speed, strength and conditioning. Breaking down exercise in to groups of the posterior chain (Back, Butts, and thighs), core, metabolic warm up, and sport-specific training, the Manual gives you a vast range of exercises to use.At the start of each section, there is a great amount of effort showing how each muscle group is used, and the scientific nature of anaerobic and aerobic exercises.Down point is that a lot of exercises use aids such as agility ladders, resistance bands, ropes, tractor wheels. However, there is enough useful resources in the book to make it a worthwhile purchase!

XTREME TRAINING
Ok, lets make this short and sweet. This book is filled with great functional training material. The photos are excellent! The exercises were probably mostly designed by Randy`s Sport Scientist, but that is a good thing. Simply decide which movement patterns you need for your style of grappling and then page through this book to pick the ones best suited to your techniques and level of conditioning. Just make sure to have someone check your posture while you do the exercises.

Great training manual
I like Randy Couture a lot, because he's like me also an older fighter. Just to see him in action is phenomenal. I love the way he let's us see how he trains. The book is very easy too use. For every part of the body he has training tips and he explains why that's importent.A great book for anyone who wants to take his training to the next level!!

Learn From The Best
I am a Randy Couture fan. He knows what he is talking about in this book. There are a few videos of him on You tube that are excellent.

average
This book is ok. I thought there would be more solo drills/exercises that would help improve your striking and grappling game. Overall though it's not bad, it did give me some new and fresh weight lifting and warm up ideas.

Handy
I got this book many years ago when I trained MMA, I remember showing it to a PT at the gym I spoke to. He asked to borrow it, he returned it the next day and said he'd ordered himself a copy and thought it was once of the best books he'd seen. Its not re inventing the wheel in the book but gives a different take on many well known exercises.

Great Training Manual
I found the book to be of great help to me in my training. Every exercise is clearly laid out and every step has a photo to guide you. There's a lot of focus on building muscle, not only for show but specifically for fighting and how each particular exercise will benefit you in competition. The book separates upper body, lower body and core training routines as well as sparring and a set workout plan ( the plan is for build-up to competition,it really is extreme training and i'd say for serious MMA fighters only ). I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in MMA,hardcore training or even someone looking to add different exercises to a workout routine. Well laid out, great advice from one of the best of all time and a real eye-opener into the world of MMA training. Recommended.

Randy Couture's book
