Sasol Birds of Southern Africa

I'm planning a trip to South Africa in January, and bought the book to study ahead of time. The illustrations on the inside of the front cover are extremely helpful in learning the various families. Text is concise while providing key points to look for to identify species. Highly recommend it for anyone interested in birding this amazing land.

Great illustrations with very good text to help new visitors to the area. On the verge of being a bit heavy to carry around for hours at a time but I would hate to lose any of the text as it was so helpful studying the birds in advance of the trip.

Useful data, very nice artwork, and very easy to use. One of the finest bird guides around. Many authors willing to publish a guide should browse the pages of this book to learn some serious lessons about how to make a birding guide.

Ended up taking lots of pictures of birds which I did't recognize. I purchased this book after my trip and was able to name most of them. There are few I couldn't locate.

Best source out there for birds of southern africa. I bought a new copy because my old one was so worn out.

I am African living in Europe,and I must say that it is an amazing book I bought for my little son. He is a bird 🐦🐦🐦 lover. And 🦆 as his dad is European he is happy to know what birds are on the other side of Europe.So yes we are very satisfied with the book and have a lovely day. An excellent book to use as a field guide. I purchased in just sufficient time ahead to get some studying done before my trip and it was excellent for use in my down time abroad to compare with my notes. In group use it was too difficult to use with a non birding group on Game Drives - I was too busy with my binoculars!

The 1st 2 pages allow you to easily navigate in the book. The illustration are good but I have to say I have not been in SA yet to try them live.
