Hope in Times of Fear: The Resurrection and the Meaning of Easter

Jesus's Resurrection Gives Us Hope
"Hope in Times of Fear" by Timothy Keller discusses the resurrection of Jesus Christ and what it means to us today. It is a companion book to Keller’s "Hidden Christmas."Mr. Keller begins by citing the evidence that Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead and why that is important to us. Christ’s resurrection secures our victory over sin and death and gives us hope now and in the future. I especially liked the two practical illustrations of how Jesus’s resurrection confirms that our debt was paid in full. The author discusses the theme of the “Great Reversal,” which runs throughout the Bible. God does the opposite of what humans would do. He uses the weak, lowly, and despised instead of the strong and prominent to accomplish His purposes. Mr. Keller references many of the stories in the Bible to illustrate his points. The resurrection of Jesus impacts our lives and gives us hope in these troubled times. Timothy Keller discusses the social issues that we face and how we should approach them in the light of Christ’s resurrection. This book is well worth reading. Even during the slow sections (for me, that was when the author talks about the different philosophies of the past and present), the reader can benefit from Mr. Keller’s wisdom and insight. He effectively explains how, because Jesus is alive and not still dead in the grave, our faith and hope in God sustains us today as we wait for Jesus to return and put all things right. I highly recommend it.

Excellent
In a time where it seems that things are unsettling or unsure, we have an anchor to tether to. Things we have counted as reliable have become tentative as the speed of change accelerates. HE is risen and this changes everything. We have a hope that is sure. Tim Keller expands on the topic of hope biblically and practically. Thank you Timothy Keller.

Easter resurrected
I have to admit… Easter has always “let me down”. The resurrection of Jesus seems so significant but yet I focus - along with others - on everything else - the cross, the Sermon on the Mount, the Law, the attributes of God, sin, etc - why??? What was I missing???This book is what!I will never view the Resurrection the same. Not as an event to historical verify and argue for but as a daily means of worshipping God and living a life of resurrected love for others.

wonderful reading as we approach Easter
Keller always gives me something new to consider and paints wonderful images of Christ. His progression from historical evidence of the resurrection to the vision of the coming Kingdom is logical and compelling. I don’t always agree with his assertions but they are worth reading and discussing. Great for a group study.

Solid. Reasonable Faith
Tim Keller is no stranger to heartbreak and pain - he wrote this book while suffering with pancreatic cancer. He has a solid understanding of God's word as well as history. We read this book in our SundaySchool class during which time my husband was dealing with stage 4 cancer.

Life giving hope
In more than 80 years I have lived in a place of simple hope; hope that was borne out of a loving family, a small community, a simple church that was always there even when I wasn’t, people that I knew I could trust most of the time, and a country led by many (not all) good, well meaning leaders. Sadly, it seems to me that much, if not most of that time, has passed. However, into this personal void strides Tim Keller who so clearly lays out our deepest hope with such eloquence and conviction that he burns through the darkness of the secular world, which offers nothing but emptiness, and then lifts us again to offer the very real hope and encouragement so badly needed by our neighbors. Our stories change; God’s never does.

Pretty decent
Great read for someone just starting out in Christian theology. He doesn’t go in depth like his other books, but it’s a broad stroke of what the Christian life means.
