4" tall including lid and 4 3/4" wide. This special piece was created as a funeral urn for a loved one or simply as a decorative art piece for your home. If used as an urn it will hold about 30 lbs. living weight in ashes. I threw the piece on the wheel with Grolleg porcelain, and then burnished it well with a fine terra sigillata before bisque firing. I then coated the piece with ferric chloride and painted orchids on it by a special method taught to me by a dear friend before saggar firing it with various combustible materials to achieve the phenomenal colors and effects. I absolutely love this process and the elemental qualities and colors it produces! The dramatic colors produced by chemical reactions within the foil during the firing process can continue to shift and change after the piece has been taken out of the kiln and completely cooled! This piece was low fired so it is porous and not food safe or water tight. It has been sealed with an acrylic sealer for durability and protection. Even tho it has been sealed, the colors may continue to change over time! The wooden base is sold separately for $18.
