it does it in a manner that makes it easy to prepare ready-to-eat canned meals
This book was all I wanted, and some things I didn't even know I needed! Not only does it emphasize SAFE canning practices, it does it in a manner that makes it easy to prepare ready-to-eat canned meals, assuring that all jars contain consistent amounts of product. You aren't going to have one jar of stew with mostly potatoes, and one with mostly meat. I have not tried any of the actual recipes just yet, as I just received the book a week ago. However, I have ear-marked about half the book and am eager to start! My garden will be expanded this year, and I will be canning until my heart is content! In addition, the book is full of healthy meals...you don't have to wonder what is in your food when you can it yourself. You will know!I did see one error in the book on a chili recipe that calls for 4 cups of ground cumin (for 7 quarts), but that is the only thing I noticed that I was disappointed in.You don't have to be a 'Prepper' to appreciate this canning book!

Five Stars +
This is a fabulous book. I’m a country boy. Both of my grandmothers canned. And my mother canned. (That’s what Victory Gardens were all about in WWII. Remember them?) And, since retirement 12 years ago, I’ve grown a garden myself and canned. But, where I have 100 canning jars, Daisy has 500. I have the old cookbooks, dating back to my great-grandmother, as well as the canning manuals. But Daisy provides recipes and tips that I’ve never seen before. Plus an easy, readable writing style. And honest answers. Reusable lids? Daisy says, “I have a confession . . . I have tried reusable lids and I really, really don’t like them.” Then she tells why. That alone saved me a lot more than the price of the book, I gotta tell ya.

Amazing book!
I love this book! Full of easy to use information. I’ve never canned before and this summer I learned to water bath and pressure can! Love this book!

Not a “rebel” canner book
Very clear cut warnings about what can happen from improper canning, detailed canning, and cost cutting ways to save money. One thing I disliked was what not to can. I was expecting a more “rebel” canning approach. Otherwise it was very good.

Best “prepping” book
I love this book! I read it all in one sitting because I couldn’t seem to put it down! There are so many ideas and things I never thought to can before that now I can’t wait to try these recipes out. This by far, is the best “ prepping” book I have bought yet.

I decided to get this book despite some negative reviews. Very, very good decision.,I love it!!
I just got this book today and love it. There were some negative reviews on it but decided to purchase it anyway. This is exactly what I wanted. So many of my other canning books only had the basis when it comes to whole meals. The variety in this book is tops. I am over-the-moon happy that there is a recipe for carnitas and other awesome sounding meals. Getting my canner ready for the ride of its life!

Funny, helpful and readable!
Food preservation is quickly becoming a passion with me, so I read a LOT of resources on the subject. But I rarely read much of the narrative. Too eager to get to the step-by-step instructions... But Daisy's introduction, with its "write as if you're talking" style, drew me in immediately. I read every word from beginning to end! Other instructional authors should TAKE NOTE! The recipes look fabulous and I can't wait to try them. Plus it was fun to note that I'm already using some of the techniques described. I won't be embarrassed about canning all my leftovers as leftover soup. I'll be looking for other books by Daisy!

Intriguing in a lot of ways, but caution warranted
I waffled between giving this 3 or 4 stars. I've been canning for over 10 years, and was looking to specifically expand my pressure canning repertoire. She has lots of interesting recipes on canning and specifically using those canned goods to create meals, which I find very valuable. She also has an fairly substantial discussion about the rational behind some of the prepping stuff she does, which was very interesting as we are not preppers but will probably adapt some of her ideas and intergrate them into our food storage and self-sufficiency model.But... and it's a big one... I do NOT recommend this book for newbie canners. While her style is folksy and charming, her text has some glaring and obvious errors and downright wrong or out-of-date information. For example, there are a number of recipes that have typos in them that make them hard to follow and confusing (I was able to work through them due to my experience canning similar products). She gives incorrect processing times (her tomato processing times are basically pre-1990's recommendations), and instructs you to sterilize your lids and rings (that ceased to be a recommendation in the 1960's, the current recommendations don't even have you heating them, and you don't have to pre-boil your jars if you're processing more than 10 minutes, only heat them). She does say that you are responsible for your family's safety, basically obliquely suggesting that it's okay to not follow "official" rules, but I find that unacceptable and irresponsible. You do tend to gain confidence deviating a bit from official recipes as you gain experience and learn the basic rules for safely canning and ratios etc, but some of the information is so egregiously and blatantly contrary to recommendations that it makes it hard to be confident about any of her recipes without meticulously scrutinizing them and comparing them to tested recipes. So while this book can be a valuable contribution to your canning cookbook shelf, especially if you're looking for ways to use your canned stuff or different ways of spicing things etc, much caution is warranted and should only be used by an experienced canner who has a firm grip on the current recommendations for safe canning and a good grasp of the science behind canning.

Good reference
This book is worth of a spot on your bookshelf. Even if you are not into prepping there are lots of good recipes for cooking one weekend to have easy food for your weekdays meals when things are rushed.Home canned food done like this is much more tasty than you would expect. If you don’t own a pressure canner and don’t plan to buy one you will likely not find much more than you could find in a regular preserving book like jams, pickles. It is the meals in a jar that make this worthwhile. Easy to read and understand, however, no photos if that matters to you.Recommend for anyone serious about actually canning.

Great recipes
Recipes are amazing. Reason for 4 stars is the most important info is missing. How long will everything last?

Basic book good if there’s no internet
It’s good if you know nothing. If you have basic skills then it might be good if you don’t have internet to double check basic things
