Same book as "Why Meditate?"
This book is essentially the same book as "Why Meditate?" by the same author. They were written around the same time, and the blurbs describing the books are much more different than the books themselves. Almost the same chapters --- one book has one extra --- and the chapters seem to be word-for-word identical.

art of meditation.
My first book on meditation. I am not completely through it yet, but so far so good. I have really enjoyed everything I have read from Matthieu Ricard.

Good first book...
Basically this is a similar review as I gave for the second beginner's book I read "Meditation: Advice to Beginners." This is a book that leaves you with more questions than answers but it is worth the read as, one has to start somewhere it learning this process.

A very good source of inspiration.
A very good source of inspiration.I enjoyed reading this book because of its good structure and its balance between explaining the benefits of meditation without overselling that message. Contrary to what is often seen in this kind of books, the author delivers his key messages clearly without blurring them with words and concepts that can sometimes be difficult to related to and understand for people not familiar with the cultures where spirituality is practised more intensively that in the West. The book delivers what is says it intends to, namely to introduce the reader to the art of meditation. To demystify the whole concept of meditation, the author provides persuasive scientific evidence of the positive processes taking place in the brain during and after meditation. The world would be a better place and would have happier populations if we all learned to meditate and cultivated the ultimate purpose of meditation, which are: peace of mind and altruistic love. Be inspired!

I read little bits of this book early in the morning and experienced it as an integral part of my daily meditation. I will read it again and again

A deep view of meditation
It's a great overview about meditation. It gives a good perspective.I read it looking for techniques, but it isn't this kind of books. This book talks about why and how meditate not in techniques, but in purpose.

The best book on meditation I have ever read
The best book on meditation I have ever read. Explains everything in depth but with such simplicity and, in particular, helped me to understand the illusory concept of the 'ego self'. I'd strongly recommend reading right to the end because, in my opinion, it gets even better as it goes along.

Great book
I like the book, however I would put 'Mindfulness Meditation' or even 'Inner Calm' in the beginning of the Chapter 3, as they are easier to start with. Other than that, it's a good and easy read. Even though the author says that he didn't want to write a book, I quite like his style, as looks pretty wise, but not boring.
