Very fun to read!
I bought this book to read to my son- him and I both really enjoyed the first one! He wanted me to read the Ghostly Galleon to him over again, I bought this one instead of re-reading the other book! Was a very fun book to read!

This is the first series my son has read that he couldn't put down. He just turned ten. He read the last 2 in one sitting. Anyone know if there will be more?

I love that this story answers all my questions from the Pirate Cruncher.

Action Packed!
Matilda is fishing with her father when she reels in a bottle with a treasure map. The map will lead Matilda, her friend Jim Lad , and the Jolley Rogers to an island where a sea monster guards a huge treasure chest of gold. In this chapter book which is meant for ages 6-9, the crew find an island inhabited by a pirate , a huge number of monkeys and scarlet parrots. As you read the story you will understand the importance of the parrots in thwarting the sea monster's devouring of the crew. In an interesting twist to the story , Matilda and Jim find themselves in the monster's belly along with discovering 91 old pirates who live there. Quick thinking helps them escape and the old pirates , Matilda, and her friends/family live comfortable back at home. The story is full of action and will keep the reader engaged throughout the story.

The language is a little difficult to read due to all the pirate talk. Though it was certainly still a worthwhile read.
The third installment of the Jolly Rogers. I love how Jonny Duddle started off the Jolly Rogers with the picture books and then evolved them into these longer books, so far 3 book series. The language is a little difficult to read due to all the pirate talk. I noticed my son frowning at the book and then asking me to explain what some of the pirate talk meant. We read most of it together and in my opinion it's not as good as the previous 2 books of the series, which were a great read.1. The Jolley-Rogers and the Ghostly Galleon2. The Jolley-Rogers and the Cave of Doom3. The Jolly-Rogers and the Monster's GoldThough it was certainly still a worthwhile read, especially reading to the boys, as you'll find yourself also putting on your best pirate voice. The pictures in the book are black and white and not colour, as those who got introduced to the Jolly Rogers through the picture books expected, however the pictures are still beautifully drawn and detailed as has been through the series.

Has ignited my sons love of reading 'grown up' books! Yaay!
my son grew up with the picture books, and we bought the first Duddle paperbook 2 years ago to try to encourage him onto older paperbacks, as we saw these books as a good stepping stone to progress his reading. He looked at it, declared it boring (because the pictures were black and white, and 'there are too many words' ๐), and went back to his picturebooks....However, 2 years on, at the age of 9/10 he now LOVES these!! We have now bought all three and they have really fired him up about reading, I am so pleased! Thankyou Mr Duddle!! I wish I could find more 'grownup' paperbacks that link to well loved picturebooks, as if your kids loved the younger books, when the time is right and they are old enough, they will love these!

A good adventure with links to "The Pirate Cruncher"
We waited for this book to come out, having started off with the picture books "The Pirates Nextdoor" and "The Pirate Cruncher" and progressing to the chapter-based Jolley Rogers series. This story has links back to the original Pirate Cruncher, and reveals where the Pirates who have been crunched have gone. My son loved the action, and working out the plot. This is a good read for children around 7 years +
