BLADE RUNNER soundtrack, composed by Vangelis for Ridley Scotts 1982 Sci-Fi film, is now on 180g translucent red vinyl. Album is a twelve track, melodic collection of classical compositions & synthesizers that mirror the futuristic film.

Vangelis at the top of his game
I have every single album from Vangelis and from all his soundtracks this, to my opinion, is him at his best. This is where a soundtrack completed the movie to a point that i believe if Blade Runner had a different music it would have been useless. It is like how spring has to come after winter this movie was born to have this soundtrack or vice versa. None would exists without the other. Most of the music on this soundtrack is original for the movie and there are some pieces that he wrote for other albums or projects but they fit the movie so well that they were included like Memories of Green.Vangelis wrote a lot of music for this movie and he used some in the soundtrack and some were included in the Trilogy set that was released years later in 2007.The vinyl record sounds crisp and the results are amazing - much better than the CD version. If you have a record player and don't mind paying extra bucks to get the 180 gram vinyl version, then look no further.

Excellent audio quality on a mesmerizing soundtrack by Vangelis...
Excellent recording... Sound quality is better than the compact disc (CD). The only issue i had was that the label was on the wrong sides. The Side One label was on Side two and vice versa. As some of you may know, the soundtrack for this movie was never available for a couple of decades after the movie was released. A CD version released and finally the vinyl record was released. This is the second pressing, the original pressing was on 180 grm red transparent vinyl. This is on a 180 gram black vinyl. 180 gram vinyl records are heavier and thicker than the old standard vinyl records which means it is less prone to warping.

Brilliant Music on well pressed vinyl
While I prefer the fuller and more extended Blade Runner soundtrack, this vinyl sounds AMAZING. Gorgeous art, well pressed, filled with the ground breaking score from the ground breaking movie.Vangelis's eerie sounding, synth heavy score has inspired countless music artists and it's easy to see why. The variety of music on this soundtrack is wonderful, but it's all cohesive. Even it's soft depression era melancholy ballad of One More Kiss Dear, with it's scratchy radio and worn vinyl sound fits into this world.I can't say enough good things about this movie, this score and now i have it on analogue and I couldn't be happier about it.

One More (Play), Dear
As some folks have pointed out here, this album is chock full o' VO (as in: actual dialog from the movie inserted into the music). This has always been an unfortunate quirk of Vangelis, and one that is universally panned. Still, you either accept that on the one hand you're getting an annoying VO, or you appreciate that on the other hand you are getting the original music, performed by the composer.Presentation of the vinyl is excellent, with an unexpected gatefold jacket, and lots of pictures from the movie, including one of Vangelis himself from the 80s. The disc labels are slightly confusing, as only one boldly proclaims which side you're looking at (Side 2 as it happens), so if you extract the record from its sleeve as I did, facing Side 1, you'll probably stand there, foolishly staring at it for several long moments, trying to ascertain which side it is.While in otherwise pristine condition, my album jacket suffered some damage along the top edge where apparently the disc itself banged upwards inside during shipping hard enough and/or often enough to start to wear through. Oh, well.Anyway, sounds superb!

Music OK, Won't Play on Computer
This is not so much a review of the music (short summary, it's okay, but, unlike a lot of others, I found the insertion of bits of dialogue distracting and ill-advised), as of the quality of the disc. The first thing I noticed when I took off the shrink wrap was that one of the hinge "ears" on the jewel case was broken off and missing. Okay, not worth a return for a $10 purchase. Then I discovered what I thought was especially bad: although it plays on car and home stereos, it will not play on my computer; it just spins as the drive tries unsuccessfully to pick up the lead-in track. I played other random CDs on the computer to see if it was a drive fault, and they all played like champs. So, big points off for packaging and for physical quality. Inexpensive, but cheap, too, unfortunately.

Awesome single CD edition is just what I wanted.
I am really glad I purchased this CD. While I know there is a three-disc version released maybe 15 years ago, I prefer this one because it has enough of the music I want from the movie mixed in with sound bites from the film that enhance the listening experience much like you get with John Carpenter's Escape From New York soundtrack or a Taratino movie soundtrack. Plus it comes in a CD jewel case and it matches estheticsaly with the 2049 CD set on a shelf in my movie soundtrack collection. Both Bladerunner films come in CD jewel cases as far as I know instead of cardboard.

HORRIBLE Sound Quality
Do not buy this CD. Tried importing this low-quality version of the Blade Runner soundtrack into iTunes several times. It didn't take, just a lot of machine noise as my desktop tried to latch on to the disk. When it finally did catch, the audio quality was abysmal. I kid you not, it was like listening to the soundtrack play on a distant AM radio station -- heavy static throughout. I'll be avoiding this seller's product in the future.

A classic! A Noir Masterpiece that holds up to the passing of time.
This is a score that completely changes the feeling and mood of a film, adding layers of complexity and emotion to the experience. I cannot imagine Blade Runner with a contemporary sci-fi or action film score, full of big orchestral splashes and all to typical arrangements. The completely electronic music was at the time a new and forward thinking sound and perhaps a thing of the 80's but its use of familiar jazz and blues arrangements makes the music timeless. For me this is the "classic soul" of my generation. I gave it four stars because the sonics on this version are not as deep and crisp as other files I have.

Tears and rain
This sounds like a really good prog rock album, yet is in fact the stunning complementary musical soundtrack to one of the key films of the eighties, the ravishingly rain-drenched, dystopian Blade Runner, for which Vangelis composed some of his most haunting music.Using mainly a variety of keyboards, Vangelis conjures up the unique mood Ridley Scott created for his 1982 movie. Happily, we also get a few snatches of dialogue, mainly of Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer ~ the latter's memorable self-written final words, on closing track Tears in Rain.A powerful-voiced Mary Hopkin sings Rachel's Song beautifully, and the vocal trilling of Demis Roussos on Tales of the Future has to be heard to be believed. There's an hour or so of fantastic music here, which should send anyone straight back to the rainy, sad, sunless film.

"I've seen things people wouldn't believe ..."
This is a review of the original one-disc edition of the soundtrack, released in 1994, twelve years after the film.In his biography of the composer, Mark Griffin speculates as to the reason why the soundtrack was not released earlier. If it had, it would certainly have captured Vangelis's reputation for supreme mastery of film score composition, being not long after his triumph with `Chariots of Fire'. But Griffin notes that it may have been Vangelis himself who held back on the release, ostensibly because Vangelis did not want to overexpose himself. (From reading Griffin's biography one senses that Vangelis has only ever released a small percentage of all the music he has composed.)However, the problem may have been contractual, a breakdown in relations between Warner Brothers (the film studio) and Polygram (the record company). There was also director Ridley Scott's decision to incorporate some other music within the film, which may have upset Vangelis. Scott was notorious too for constantly revising his edits which may have driven Vangelis up the wall with the requirements to rescore. (If so, this did not stop Vangelis doing the soundtrack for Scott's film `Conquest of Paradise' a decade later.)Whatever the cause of the initial delay, when Scott released his director's cut of `Blade Runner' in 1994, Vangelis may then have thought it was time to release the soundtrack. "Finding myself unable to release these recordings at the time," is all that Vangelis reveals to us on the disc's sleevenotes. The CD includes some music that did not appear in the movie, but it also includes extracts of the dialogue from the film, including Rutger Hauer's "I've seen things people wouldn't believe ..." speech. These all add to the atmosphere of the music, making it the most `tied' of Vangelis's soundtracks. Yet relief can be found by the segueing of some tracks, which equally makes it possible to view the music as a concept album rather than purely as a soundtrack. The opening `Main Titles' and the penultimate eponymous `Blade Runner (End Titles)' always raise goosebumps for me; and since there is no duff track inbetween (except perhaps `One More Kiss, Dear') the whole CD is worth its five-star rating. I am particularly admiring of the sound of dripping water that Vangelis employs as the pulse to `Rachel's Song', whilst Mary Hopkin's voice wails in accompaniment. But for a sci-fi thriller it is surprising to realise that most of the music Vangelis wrote for the film is rather subdued, for this is a predominantly slow, moody, even meditative soundtrack: witness tracks four-five and seven-eight-nine. But is that part of its immense success?

Perfect, by the master.
This has always been one of my top ten favourite movies. So to have the soundtrack is wonderful. The wonderful dialogue "I have seen things you people would not believe" is on the end of the CD. I don't know has it always been there but regardless it seems a fitting memory to Rutger. Or a coincidence. Regardless I got a lump in my throat. The music is beautiful, and fans......... You will know it all.Great Price.

Brilliant soundtrack, filthy record
OK we all know this soundtrack is superb. On vinyl it sounds even better! My favourite track being Rachels song which is sung by Mary Hopkin. However there is a down side ( well to my album anyhow) It was absolutely filthy! needed 2 cleans to get rid of the dirt off the surface, which is unacceptable and shows how shoddily the Q.A is for records these days.
