The elemental power of earth inspires the grounded, closed-back design of the ATH-GL3 headset, making you hear and feel every moment – of a game, a song, a conversation – for a truly immersive experience. But don’t mistake grounded for heavy. At less than 230 grams, the ATH-GL3 is extremely lightweight, allowing you to game for hours in comfort. Inside the closed-back housings are large 45 mm drivers that provide high-resolution audio with exquisite detail. The left earcup has a built-in volume control dial and a mute switch for convenient control of the professional-quality boom microphone. The mic is detachable, as are the two included cables: a 3.0 m (9.8') cable with 3.5 mm (1/8") mic and headphone plugs for connecting to computers, and a 1.2 m (3.9') cable with a 3.5 mm (1/8") TRRS plug for connecting to PS5, Xbox Series X, and other gaming consoles. Compatible with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, laptops, PCs, and other devices with a standard 3.5 mm TRRS headset connector or with a separate mic input and headphone output.

The sound quality is great, as should be expected from this brand, but there are a couple notable caveats: - First, the microphone will pick up some background noise and some loud high-pitch sound can physically carry between the left earpiece and the microphone if it's loud enough. - Second, the construction of the left earpiece does have some plastic pop/crack noises as you tilt your head between your shoulders. That's caused by the TRS jack being pointed directly downward so the wire bumps into your shoulder and puts just enough torque on the earpiece to make it move enough to make that sound. The jack should, ideally, be realigned in future models to prevent this from happening, but it's not a deal-breaker.

This is one of the precious few unpowered 2.5mm headsets with a boom microphone on the market which doesn't have a shared ground between the microphone and the earpieces. For that reason alone, it's deserving of your business. The TRS jack integrated into the left earpiece is a TRRRS which has a true five-conductor setup in order to separate the grounds between the microphone and earpieces as long as you use the cable (provided by the manufacturer) which terminates in separated 2.5mm TRS connectors. This will avoid audio hopping from your earpieces into your microphone due to ground looping, but only if you avoid using the second cable provided with the headset. The sound quality is great, as should be expected from this brand, but there are a couple notable caveats: - First, the microphone will pick up some background noise and some loud high-pitch sound can physically carry between the left earpiece and the microphone if it's loud enough. - Second, the construction of the left earpiece does have some plastic pop/crack noises as you tilt your head between your shoulders. These headphones are light, comfortable, sound incredible, and the mic is top quality but the cable isn't available for purchase so I'm making a new cable tonight and that's a huge bummer for this price.

### ⭐⭐⭐ A decent headset, worth the price point... but with some caveats.

Consider this an 'at first glance' review. I purchased this at 100 dollars to upgrade from a cheaper Corsair branded gaming headset. For the price point, the sound quality is better... but not all 'that' notably so. The construction however is much better. The metal parts seem solid enough, the adjustable headband is firm and does not slip nearly as easily as my old plastic one did which is nice. I feel like the swivel on the ear cups could go just a little further, but not much of a complaint, just a nit pick there. The cups themselves are soft with just enough give for comfort without letting the headphones mash against the head, I might consider replacement in the future for something just a bit firmer if there are options, but... nit pick. It comes with two cords, a very long one with a split end for the back of the PC, the freedom of movement is nice to have if you are close to the tower and or just want to eek out that tiny bit more sound quality. What makes this a 3 star review: 1. The volume wheel is 'tiny', and set into the case of the left headphone so far it can be somewhat difficult to adjust the volume without holding the entire left speaker in your fingers, and using the very tip of the thumb to adjust it. 2. The mute switch just above the volume is stiff, which in and of itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but again, given its positioning, and the design of the switch itself, it is both somewhat difficult to flip the switch without holding the entire speaker and using the fingernail of your thumb or your fingertip. And it can be difficult to tell if the switch is in the up position or the down position. (Whereas on my old headset, the mute switch was a button toggle, it was relatively easy to push, and feel without trouble whether the button was in or out.) 3. The plug for the cord is vertical at the bottom rear of the left speaker and sticks out about an inch and a half, every time I turn my head to the left, I end up jabbing my clothes and or my shoulder with it. Partially a nit pick, but it is a minor irritation, and I imagine if one is rather rough with it, it's not going to be good for the cord in the long run. And finally 4. The microphone is 'quiet'. In order to get any reasonable volume out of it, I had to turn up windows' amplification to the max. I do not know if this is the long cord, or the microphone itself or something inbetween but my old mic was plenty loud with no issues. So just something to be aware of. One last little design nit pick... the slot in the headset for the microphone, and the shape of the microphone plug itself.... don't quite line up at all. Could be a case of lazy design, or reuse of a microphone from one headset to another, or any number of things... I do not know... but it does not look like these two things go together.
