Tyler Perry's Good Deeds

He does it all.
Tyler Perry wrote, directed, and stars in this film.I'm sure it hits home for a lot of people. Single moms. Single dads. Anyone scraping by with children and responsibilities. You never know how to get out of the bottom of the barrel. Sometimes it takes longer just to get by when other people have more than enough. But you get by and things do get better. To show that this is not always the case, Perry shows Deeds' brother who has an alcohol and anger problem. 'Sabotages himself' is the diagnosis. There is that obstacle, too, that some people never do get past. Lindsey, the office cleaner, finds herself unable to manage the basics. With a young child who depends on her and no other support, she hits the bottom of every barrel you can think of, but does not hit the bottle (good for her!) Even though she and Perrry's character, a successful executive, don't love each other, aren't attracted to each other, and have little in common, she cuts herself and her daughter loose from all the problems they would eventually have to face, choosing to follow the sun with the newest man in her life. Bad decision, but at least she is a caring mother and has no addictions. The least romantic romance of the romantic movies about rich and poor meeting and living a fairy tale life. When Tyler Perry's character and his fiancee have an honest talk, where they DO confess to love each other deeply, it does not turn out the way the viewer might expect. Yet, it is one of those painful conversations that you NEVER see on the screen. And it does not turn around. It goes right to the heart of what people value and want for themselves. Perry's message, that you can do many things because you are convinced it will make other people happy, is not a death knell for relationships. Some people marry because before marriage makes them happy, it primarily makes the loved one happy. That's fantastic and ideal when both people come to the altar with that attitude. The message of the film, though, is that when you see the limit right in front of you, before ever entering the holy state of matrimony, you should feel the import of that limit. The fiancee said that she was never going to want children. The honest truth, repeated again, and this time, all the love in the world is not putting the couple in a good place to start a life together. This is an issue in the Amazon television remake of 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith.' Children. It glares like a beacon warning that the future is uncertain if you don't sincerely share the same feelings about family.

Truly Enjoyable - Some Heartfelt Recommendations
I really enjoyed this movie. The guy that plays Wesley's brother, I think his name is Brian White, did an amazing job, as did Thandie Newton. Brian White should have won an academy award for this performance. I found Thandie Newton's ability to display emotions in the outstanding range. Something I would change is the ending for the movie. **Spoiler Alert** When he says he doesn't know what's out there, but he's going to find it, this was a huge let down! Perhaps I have unrealistic expectations of Mr. Perry, because he has delivered so brilliantly in so many ways in the past, but here I think Wesley already "found" what he was looking for out there and it was Lindsey! Let it be Lindsey. That's every woman's dream. Another issue that needs to be addressed is that Wesley never tells her that he loves her in this movie. Huh? I need to see him realize and express his love to Lindsey. Finally, this movie should have included a scene where they have a beautiful wedding. At no point do we get to see Lindsey in her "Cinderella" moment. I need this scene to be added! She is still in her rags on the plane, even though Ariel has her hair done. I think a more emotionally satisfying ending would have been for them to have a passionate kiss when he goes to see her at work and explains that he's not getting married. This would have also been a good place for him to tell her that he loves her. Even better, at this point he should have proposed! In the next scene, I would like to see their wedding. At the wedding, Ariel should be the flower girl. Also, it would be interesting to see Brian flirting with Wesley's ex-fiance at the wedding reception, since these two like to party (Perhaps Wesley's mother will get her wish after all). The last scene could be Wesley and Lindsey in Africa, with her in her nursing uniform (she has gone back and earned her nursing degree - yay!) and him digging wells. It would be nice to see the two friends, who he obviously misses very much, digging the wells with him in this scene. I love this movie. Perhaps when Tyler does a remake in 20 years of this classic these new scenes can be added. Thanks for making this great movie Tyler Perry!

Great Until The End
*light spoiler alert* I hate that their relationship does not stay platonic and the unrealistic ending that an amazing mother like her, who finally had stability, would do what she did on a dime for a man she barely knows. at the very end when she starts talking about her feelings I thought for sure she was at least going to set some boundaries in regards to her daughter and her needs but noooo; It's all about her and her fears. Poorly written and does not fit the character at all.
