Ideal User I purchased this lighted magnifier to use for identifying small seeds and plants for an agronomy class. The model I purchased was an Ultra Optix #SV-2LP-LED Pock Lighted Magnifier. I do not recommend this tool for children to use. The ideal user for this product would be someone that needs to look at small objects with detail. I would also recommend this product to any student in need of a hand lens for identifying plants or seeds in classes or crops competitions. I am excited to use this in the future for identification in future agronomic courses and my career. Positive Characteristics The criteria I used to evaluate the lighted magnifier were the clarity of magnification, durability, and difficulty of usage. I have found that the magnification is exceptional for identifying small details. This magnifying glass has made identifying wheat seeds much easier because of clarity that it provides for viewing the brush and cheeks of the seed. When looking at plants this magnifying glass helps to magnify any pubescence on the leaves or stems. The simple design of the product makes it easy for any person to use. The LED light is very useful for distinguishing small details in poor lit environments. The handle is designed to allow anyone to have a good grip. The durable design prevents cracking of the lens or frame even when accidently dropped. This product is a convenient size and is easily packable. This magnifying glass unfortunately does not come with a case; however, there are small pouches available that it can easily be stored in. Small cases can be purchased on Amazon at a minimal cost to alleviate this inconvenience. As a full time student, having this magnifying glass in a small size is important because of the limited space in my backpack. Since it is such a convenient size, I am able to bring this magnifying glass with me daily. Overall, I have been very satisfied with this purchase. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, small magnifying glass.

Small but powerful magnification for my vision. Light weight with bright light. I use it alot and haven't changed the batteries yet. I need 7X magnification.

I had another brand and i dropped it and broke it . . . . I did use it every day , until tragedy happened so i needed to replace it and this was there . If i dropped this one and broke it I would find another just like this to replace it .

Works great with magnification being actually 7X. LED switch is easy and does not turn on in your pocket.

Let's cut to the chase: 1. The effective usable area of the lens is less than 1". 2. Images are completely distorted, resulting in worse visual clarity than without the magnifier. 3. Cheap materials. 4. Poor design (nearly impossible to open the battery chamber, and the battery housing is on the removable back shell, NOT on the magnifier itself). 5. Poor construction. Final takeaway: complete and total piece of [expletive deleted]. There. I said it. I hope that saved someone some time and grief...

I'm legally blind, so I own a lot of small hand magnifiers of the "ILA type". If you don't know what I'm talking about, Independent Living Aids, a company specializing in accessibility devices, imports a whole range of these hand magnifiers with LED lights. Like this Carson magnifier, they have a single LED light with a slide switch and take 3xAAA batteries. Except the Carson has a switch that works. And its battery compartment isn't a fragile pivot hinge tied in with that switch. Carson's got a much more robust design in every respect. The lens on the Carson is a little smaller than the ILA 7x lens at about 1.5 inch diameter. The effect of that is somewhat mixed. It's just not practical to make high powered lenses much larger, and ILA's is pushing the limits a bit, even if I do prefer it. The ILA magnifier switches to the smaller lens size at 8x too. This Carson magnifier costs less than half the price of the ILA magnifier at the time of writing, but the quality difference feels like somehow those prices are the wrong way around. The 7x Carson is comparatively quite the bargain, then. I only wish I could buy 6x and 8x versions as well, as the exact magnifier I reach for in that range depends a lot on what I'm trying to do with it.

I love these things! I like to have one in every room of the house! And I buy them for friends regularly. We’re all getting older. None of us can see as well as we used to and it seems like the directions printed on the bottles just keeps getting smaller and smaller!

This is my 2nd one. Try not to drop it. After many years and a lot of dropping my old just wasnt the same. Got a new one and very happy. Wish it came with a small cover to keep the dust off the lens. Light is bright and magnification is perfect.
