How can you not love this book? Page after page of economic data across global over two thousand years. Especially useful is the link at the end of each table so you can download its original data from the web. Anyone who's more interested in hard data than talking points should have this. Granted, the data covering the earliest period are sketchy and can be contended. Still, it's an invaluable source of reference.

one of the best book, one can have and must must read. I think this book should be part of Indian sylabbus in schools and should be taught and revised again again to students. Why ? Answer is read this book and you will know

Volume fondamentale per lo studio dell'economia moderna e contemporanea, citato innumerevoli volte e usato come fonte da numerosi storici quotati e molto quotati. L'appunto che vorrei fare è che questa edizione è stampata con una specie di inchiostro grigio-medio che non contrasta sufficentemente con lo sfondo, che pure è costituito da una carta di buona qualità, molto chiara. Ma l'inchiostro nero non si usa più? Aggiungiamo anche che i caratteri usati sono dei sans-serif che non migliorano molto la leggibilità.

当方高校の歴史教師です。今年2013年大阪大学２次試験世界史問題に本書のデータを使用した問題が出題されていて、興味を持ったので購入しました。価格（5250円）以上の価値がありました。物語としての歴史に、具体的なデータが加わって本当の歴史学になるのだということが実感できる書物です。また、西洋と日本の近世の違いー戦乱と革命と疫病で人口が激変した西洋と鎖国していた日本が大きな戦乱や革命やパンデミック的な疫病の無かったことなどーが、具体的数値をあげて、さりげなく簡潔に説明してあるのも有益でした。本書は歴史学を学ぶ者にとって必須文献になるでしょう。
