Alcoholics Anonymous: The Big Book: The Original 1939 Edition

Saved my life

I thought I was ordering the original / first edition of the "BIG BOOK," but several people have made references to pages that are much higher in number than this book! It's still useful reading, though.

I am new to the recovery world having just stopped drinking on March 18, 2021, but I've considered joining AA, and wanted to just get an idea of what the Big Book is about. Of course I knew that this book is the original, and so very outdated. But I will tell you this ~ by the end of chapter two, I wanted a drink so badly that it wasn't funny. I now believe that I am the type who would not benefit by AA meetings and the Big Book. I just need to keep very busy in order to not think about alcohol. But the biggest and best thing is, I pray every day for the Lord to continue to help me not want to turn back to alcohol. Prior to quitting cold turkey, I had prayed every night without fail for the Lord to rescue me from this demon. And He did. I ended up in the hospital with severe gastritis. But aside from that, I suffered zero physical symptoms of withdrawal, which astonished my nurses. My bp didn't go up at all, I showed no sign at all of withdrawal as far as physical symptoms go. Now, back to the book. I guess it's something a collector might be interested in. But what do I know?

Alcoholics Anonymous; The Original 1939 Edition is a "must have" for anyone who has a passion for the history of Alcoholics Anonymous. I feel it's important for a recovering alcoholic to encounter the history of AA because they need to know where AA came from and what made and makes Alcoholics Anonymous tick. The first section of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous has not changed or been revised in any of the four editions. The first section contains 164 pages that are the textbook for a recovering alcoholic. The second part of the book has changed slightly with the printing of each new edition. The second part changes because it is the part that consists of personal stories of recovering alcoholics. After purchasing my copy of Alcoholics Anonymous: The Original 1939 Edition, I could read the stories that make-up the second part of the first edition. The stories change with each edition in hopes of reaching more alcoholics by getting them to relate to alcoholism in the present day. I ordered a new copy of Bill W.'s book for just a few dollars. The book came to my house just eleven days after I purchased it.
