Good sound in a tiny package.
I'd been going back and forth about buying a Micro 50 at the usual retail price ($299) when I happened on a used one at a very attractive price. I've been playing it for a couple of days and overall I'm very happy with it.Sound-wise, the clean channel is very Fender-ish, which is to say somewhat bassy, although that can be compensated by adjusting the tone controls. The tone controls aren't super responsive, like some modern amps, but more like those on a classic amp. Through my 12" Mojotone cabinet with an Eminence Patriot I get classic Fender tones. Through my Eden EX110 (a compact bass cabinet) I get a very clear, hi-fi, sound that's great for jazz, or for amplifying acoustic instruments. The overdrive channel has a good crunch at lower levels and a nice sustain at high levels. It did take a fair bit of fussing with the tone controls to get a tone I liked, and I ended up just using my TC Mojomojo pedal instead. The amp doesn't come with a foot pedal (kind of a necessity for channel switching) but the inexpensive single button Fender pedal works fine.I tried it first with a 12” Eminence, then with an 8” full range speaker in a cabinet I made, and finally with an 8” Eminence Beta-8A in a sealed enclosure. That last one tuned out to be just what I was looking for. Not too much bass, and a lot of punch. Overall I'm very happy with it. It's more than loud enough for any playing I do, and compact enough to carry in a bookbag.
