Ladybugs are a farmer's best friend-they eat the bugs that would otherwise harm plants. Nature Up close series uses beautiful watercolors to depict each creature's world from its unique perspective. Simple text describes the creatures' movements and activities. Review: Great for kids who garden! - I gave this book to my son, who had just turned 2 in the spring when ladybugs were all over our dill and fennel, and now, 6 months later, it is still one of his favorite books! The illustrations are nice and large, the length of the book is just right for a toddler and mommy doesn't tire of reading it, either! Pretty simple and straightforward, perfect for a 2 year old. We both have enjoyed this!! I love that my daughter learned from the book and keeps asking me if the ladybugs are "pupa" yet. I would highly recommend both of these and together.

Wonderful book! As a biologist I love that there are books that introduce kids to bug life cycles in an accurate but fun way. Thanks!

Great for kids
I bought this to go with the Insect Lore Ladybug kit (link below). It was very informative and at my kid's level (6yo) of understanding. It complemented the kit well and made it a very educational experience. The only problem was the pages are a little flimsy (I know, it's a soft cover book) but my 2yo did a job on it... Perfect book for science teachers
I used this book for my live ladybug project. It is informative and great for grades Pre-K through 4. Did you know the ladybug was named after Mary, the mother of Jesus?

Very educational and
I love this little book. It's very attractively and cleverly illustrated and the author covers the life cycle of the lady bug well. School teachers will find this very beneficial for their science standards.

The illustrations provide great close up detail of the ladybug and it's habitat
The illustrations provide great close up detail of the ladybug and it's habitat. Their is text with enough information to provide young children with a good understanding of the lifecycle and some interesting facts. The text is not overwhelming as a read aloud. This would be a great book companion to an insect exploring kit to provide a good understanding of a common backyard creature.
