Colliflower Zero Clearance Insert for Kapex Miter Saw

Sheerness does not apply. Love it!! Been wanting/needing one for a while. Finally got one. Fits my Kapex perfectly!

It sits too high and the back needs to be sanded down which is not easy as it is not flat on back and the area that needs to sanded lower is around the entire edge.These should be properly machined from the seller as they are made specifically for Kapex is my understanding.This micarta material is what was used by Westinghouse in1920 for electric insulators and a strange choice for the insert frame IMO. They use micarta for knife handles also. The insert frames were made out of Aluminium before and IMO were better looking. I really do not like the micarta choice and would prefer the older style aluminum that were black and some red.

The main part is flush with the Kapex table but the inserts are 0.2 mm too high. Consequently , this sits above the table so material cannot lay flush with the table.Update: I shaved off 0.2 mm by running the inserts on a table saw. They now are flush with the base of the Kapex and work great. A massive improvement over the lame insert the Kapex ships with. I updated stars to 4 as I think this product works well once the inserts are shaved to the correct height.

Why I didn't do this BEFORE, I will never know. Won't make that mistake again. No rip-out. Once you see the cut quality, you will never to back!

Unlike a previous reviewer, mine didn't sit flush with my kapex deck. When I put a straight edge on the deck, the insert caused it to rock back and forth significantly. Everything was perfectly clean. I measured the insert, and it was 22 thou thicker than the original. Granted, the original does lie slightly below the deck. I ended up sanding off all of the powder coating and some of the aluminum from the bottom of the insert, and now it fits perfectly. It's as if it was originally machined to fit perfectly, and then it was powder coated on both sides so that it is too thick. I was hesitant to try to fix it, and wondered if I could get a replacement with a better fit. Ultimately, I decided not to waste time on that gamble, and elected to fix it myself. I thought about using sharpening stones, but started instead with a sanding block @ 220 grit. Since that was going to slow, I switched to a random orbital sander with a hard pad. That worked quickly and perfectly.The insert itself is very well made, and the replaceable plastic inserts ride flush to the main insert. Now that I have corrected the thickness, I expect this to work very well.

Very well made and durable, I thought the inserts would be flimsy, but they are about 1/8” thick pvc.
