Nice little "pocket" kalimba
Cute little ten-note kalimba, tuned to a C-major scale and a good size for kids. The direction of the scale tones was "backwards" from most other kalimbas I've used (a left-handed kalimba?) but that was easily fixed by retuning the instrument so that the scale ran in the expected direction.Has a nice, sweet sound. One small disappointment was that it lacks the two "expression holes" in the back, but I may experiment with adding those myself. One other thing to watch: at this price-point QC and consistency obviously aren't big concerns for the manufacturer. This little red kalimba was fine, but the other I ordered -- identical except in natural wood-tone -- had the sound hole cut off-center.So depending on what you get, you may have to exchange it; but if you get a good one, it's worth the price.

Best impulse buy ever
TBH, I just yelled at Alexa to buy me a finger piano. My old roommate had one, and I learned to play the theme to "Jurassic Park" on it.Which was both cool and DROVE MY GIRLFRIEND WILD!Anyway, we'd moved and I no longer had an awesome finger piano. But then one night Jurassic park came on, and i sadly yelled at Alexa to buy me a finger piano.Unfortunately, I still can't play Jurassic park and harass my gf because this one has at least 4 more keys than the old one.The craftsmanship is amazing, incidentally. I had not seen a picture before placing an order (why can't Alexa pop Up over my fire stick?**)Very well made, and a wicked cool paint job I can't quite figure out. Is there supposed to be a flames/mountain-Ish (if any goalies out there remember the old icecap pads) pattern on the front? It's the same color as the base paint and is either a fortuitous run during drying, or a very subtle job of painting one layer against the grain.10/10, but somebody has to teach me new songs!**thank me later for that one amazon, twitter @GreggOberg

Solid starter instrument, but somewhat low quality build
This is a great little Kalimba at a great price. I will say that it is very low quality in construction as far as the prongs go and the crossbar but if you're looking at something to just get started like I was it works well enough and it sounds okay. As soon as I got it I used a book from a website called Kalimba magic to learn how to play it and they recommended moving it in to C which I did basically rotating the keys around completely to get it in the right way, then I also marked specific Keys based on the instructions I found there to help me learn how to use it which is why you would see the green Sharpie on specific keys in the picture.Overall so far I'm very happy with this Kalimba and I'm learning basic songs on it so it works well enough to be a starter piece. It was shipped quickly well-packaged and arrived on time.

A nice and unusual gift.
Arrived right away without excessive packaging (always a plus). Have bought several of these as birthday presents for kids. Please be aware that the keys ARE NOT NUMBERED as in the photo.

Lovely sound
I have never played or bought a Kalimba before so I went for price value just to see if I like it. Its fun to play, easy to play and sounds wonderful. No instructions include or anything, just what you see. It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, easy to carry around. Very happy with it. Would make a great curios gift stocking filler for Birthdays or Christmas. Lots of fun.

Sturdy, sounds great, slight defect.
Purchased this for my Toddler Montessori classroom. The instruments sounds beautiful and seems to be sturdy. Only defect is that the stain was apparently sprayed on and none too carefully. You can see a couple circles of stain inside the box where it is otherwise un-sprayed. If you’re looking for an instrument that is aesthetically perfect or more for decoration, this might not be the one for you.

It has a cool sound, but it’s cheap.
It works... but I think it’s cheaper than you realize, and don’t fool yourself thinking because it’s an African instrument that it’s genuine, it’s factory made for sure, I can tell the metal is cheap because when I pluck it several times in a row, It doesn’t vibrate consistently and stops the second you touch it while it’s vibrating from your previous pluck. And when I received it, it was dirty and they spray-painted it so badly that they accidentally got spray paint where the hole was. I’m not saying that this isn't a cool instrument I’m just saying if you were going to pay this much at least get what you pay for.
